G30 BMW 540 headlight malfunction

Hello, I’m having issues diagnosing what the issue is with my passenger side headlight. So basically whenever I need to use my headlights and I switch the lights on, I’ll get both headlights to respond but my passenger side will turn on but then turn off within a second. I’ll then get all sorts of headlight malfunctions for the the entire passenger side of the headlight (high/low beam, etc). Anyone know what the issue could be, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Have you checked for codes? What do the codes say? Sounds like a bad module.

A bad module is the assumption I made as well, I did check for codes, nothing came up unfortunately!

Have you been able to fix the problem? I’m having the same issue. Seems like it might be the headlight unit itself as they turn on for a second before shutting off.

Adaptive led - 2018 540i
- Left low beam malfunction
- Left high beam malfunction
- Left daytime/parking lamp malfunction

Lights will come on for a second then shut off with the warnings. I can turn them back on using high beams for a second then they turn back off. I’ve looked at connections and wires, unplugged and plugged back it, still the same issue. Also tried disconnecting batteries and erasing codes.

These are the error codes I’m getting from bimmerlink. Everything worked fine until the other night when I pulled it into the garage. I recently did an MHD tune but it was fine for a few days after.

Yeah that looks like a bad module. Try swapping the modules between headlights to see if the problem swaps. Google 63118491415 to have an idea what the module looks like in your headlights.

Possibly not the problem, but you should be aware of SIB 630721.

Had a similar problem. Lights would switch on randomly during the day inc bright sunny conditions only way to stop was set the lights switch to off. Replaced the part with the modified one as per the bulletin. Dealer wanted £400 to diagnose + part. Ended up buying off eBay from a breakers yard for £30.

So I ended up fixing the problem. Low beam/ high beam/day,parking Malfunction.

Because it’s a big job to pull the bumper, grill, wheel liners to access these headlights, I ordered a module on eBay out of the US from a trusted seller. When it arrived I removed the bumper etc..

When I plugged in the new (used) module, “front left lighting system malfunction”. I contacted the seller and he immediately offered to send a replacement. We thought it was worth trying coding before sending the new one. I found a coder online, he had it coded in 30 mins and the headlight is working!

Problem solved and feels great to have the headlights working before fall. I hope this can help someone else. I set aside 2 days to do the job and took my time and cleaned things up along the way.

I forgot to post the solution I had found, it ended up being a faulty aftermarket DRL module. I replaced it, had it coded and it was good as new.

I had similar issues with my full adaptive LED headlights after one was removed and reinstalled. Resetting the coding fixed it like yours. No new parts needed.

Most definitely the issue is your aftermarket modules, I had the same problem. Put the OEM one back in and you should be fine.

My new to me 2018 M550i has the low beam/high beam/parking light(drivers side) malfunction on the dash. I can flash the high beams so I know they're ok, the low beams also light briefly until the computer shuts the drivers side off. Im wondering if programming might fix the faulty module, before I buy a new one?

Next question is how do I get my hands on ISTA/ESYS? I know I need to purchase an adapter to connect to the car and my laptop.
