How much $ for a radiator?
I suddenly experienced a rapid rate of coolant loss and took the M550 to a dealer, who diagnosed a bad radiator. I have over 110K miles.
Does anyone have a sense of a reasonable cost to replace the rad, expansion tank and upper hose? Thanks! |

Not sure many folks replace radiators here so I don't know how many know about pricing. But: Did the BMW dealer give you an estimate and specify what needed to be done? Do you have a good BMW Indy near you who could also bid on it? Lastly, is there a radiator expert nearby? We have one about 15 minutes from me and I have always liked their advertising. On the side of their building is a big sign that says, "A Great Place to Take a Leak". Don't know how good their work is, but if I had this issue I would ask them. --Bob

I had this happen on my 540i when I was out of town for work. I had to have the car fixed asap so I could get home, so I took it to the dealer. About 120k miles when it happened on my 2017.
Just the radiator cost me ~$2800 for parts and labor at BMW Las Vegas. I didn’t have much of a choice but they got it taken care of. They tried to upsell me on a ton of service, to the tune of $6k, I told them just do the work that needed to be done to get me home, which was the radiator. See attached receipt. I think the “Less Insurance” $150 number was a military discount or something. They gave me a loaner too for 3 days. Last edited by aerof16; 07-10-2025 at 08:45 PM.. |

The DC area dealer was comparable; they charged 3168 for the radiator. Luckily, Route 66 is still in effect for another 5.5K miles. I have absolutely gotten good value from them. Will do a Route 66 experience write-up after it expires.
I DIY'd the radiators on my e38 and e39. This pricing sort of shocked me, but the G30 radiator is buried pretty deep, and I don't charge myself over $200/hour for labor! |
