Sport Plus

How do I get to sport plus mode. I have a 520d SE with adaptive suspension. I can get sport and sport individual. What is sport plus and is it available for this car?

No sport plus on the 520d.

What's the sense here? I thought the sport plus was based on transmission and suspension etc. My 330d with sports auto and variable suspension had sport plus. Why would it's bigger brother that's over a second faster to 62mph with anti roll bars not have it?

540 and M550, i wasn't sure about the 530d.
The difference was turning dtc half off I recall. Shame if they haven't added it. In summer I drove the 330d with sport plus on mostly.

It is just coding. You can add it if you really want mode.

Is there a step by step guide to getting set up with coding on the g30?

I saw Individual sport on the 520d with VDC, so I guess that's not limited be engine size.

What does Sport Plus offer over Sport. When I individualise Sport I have all four options set to Sport. Can Sport plus go beyond this?

Further I am confused by what the "adaptive" button actually does? For instance if I am in eco-pro I can set various things to my own choosing. If I press adapative does that cancel eco-pro (or sport for that matter) and let all control systems (steering, chassis, engine and transmission) just work it out for them selves (or adapt to how I am driving at any given point)

Is it just me or are the manuals (whether printed or on line) really basic and devoid of the useful information that keen motorists actually want?

According to the G30 documents, Sport+ includes:

Quote:
The SPORT+ mode influences the accelerator pedal characteristic curve, the shift points and the Active Sound Design.
Reading through quickly, doesn't reference DTC as the key feature like previous models. Perhaps that is why all models don't get the Sport+ mode.

Best description of the Adaptive Mode is from the G12 training documents. Referenced from the G30 'Displays and Controls' document.

Quote:
9.6.1. Overview

The "ADAPTIVE" mode is used for the first time in the BMW 7 Series. It is designed to achieve a balanced driving mode where the setup is automatically adapted to both the driving situation and the driving style.

In this mode, the parameters of the Electronic Damper Control (VDP), the Electric Active Roll Stabilization (EARS), Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and the automatic transmission, for example, are switched between "COMFORT", "SPORT" and “ECO PRO” settings depending on the driving situation. However, when "ADAPTIVE" mode is active, no changes that restrict comfort (seat heating, A/C settings, etc.) are made in the event of switching to "ECO PRO" mode.

"ADAPTIVE" reacts to the current driving style. The affected control units can change their parameters on the basis of the detected driving style.

With the navigation system, the mode makes use of the available map data and optimizes "ADAPTIVE" mode by predictive functions such as early reaction to bends, junctions and road type.

The displays on the instrument cluster and Central Information Display (CID) remain in "normal" mode and do not continuously change between "COMFORT" and "SPORT" modes. This is to prevent the driver from being distracted or lose comfort by changes in the displays.

"ADAPTIVE" mode changes the modes in the background so that the driver does not notice the changes directly.
I'm sure there is more to the finer detail, time and more documents will give the greater picture.

Eco pro and adaptive modes

I may be in the minority on forums such as this in having some interest in the Eco Pro Drive mode. Of course the car feels as if it has lost most of its engine if any attempt is made to press on. And I reckon to be a fairly gentle driver, anticipating, and regarding the use of brakes as wasting fuel. So I am not sure that I benefit from significant elements of Eco Pro.

But there are two features which I appreciate. One is the look ahead feature - ease off now because speed limit is about to be reduced, junction ahead etc. Moderately useful on unfamiliar roads. It surprised me today when it told me that I was about to hit a new temporary 40mph speed limit on the M5. (How does it know that - OTA update?) The second is coasting mode. It is notable how many miles get chalked up in this mode at around 700rpm instead of perhaps 1000-1600 if not in coasting mode. So I am inclined to use the mode when cruising on motorway-type roads, or pootlng around suburbia.

Otherwise so far I have been inclined to Adaptive mode. HighlandPete's quotation indicates that this adopts as appropriate from the range of modes including Eco Pro. However, because the display does not change, it cannot give the "look ahead" information, which is a shame. But also the rev counter and feel suggest that it does not use coasting. A bigger shame.

Today, with a mixture of Eco Pro and Adaptive gave 53mpg from Surrey to N Wales in easy driving conditions.

Look ahead seems useful - why isn't that available across all modes??

I wonder if there may be conflicts, (possibly to the driver?), in some modes. I also wonder if the feature may still be working in the background, simply not so intrusive to the driver.

I use EcoPro as well.

Were you using Nav when lookahead feature activated? OTA updates do give regional new POI/roads as well as traffic updates are better integrated. I do find the eco suggestions are increasingly useful.

Gotta love those diesel mpg's.
