Air Conditioning
I know its been posted here before but I couldn't find the original thread
I get that the AC doesn't get that cold, I live in Palm Springs and currently its around 120F outside so I'm just trying to make sure its not just my car. The thing I am worried about is, when you barley get on the gas the ac drops tremendously to as if the air setting was on 1 bar. My car before this (dodge charger rt) always consitantly blew on high even full throttle. Is that just how it is on the 540i or is it just me |

You need to adjust the Upper Body temp setting.
It is in the iDrive system now, unlike the F10 where you have a dial by the AC vent. Here is the link on the technical docs. It is on the last page of the doc. http://www.bimmerfest.com/pdf/bmw-te...te-Control.pdf

suggest yaking to the dealer to check.
even cold when set to max? just ruling out there is a leak which I would have thought oretty unlikely for a new car but you never know. |

I took my car into service dept. they said it's not normal that it's lowering the ac down when you touch the gas pedal. Said they were going to do some research before dropping it off at service.

Do you have tinted windows? Illegal in NY now, sun fries the car up through the windows and the AC just doesn't seem to keep up.

I love everything else about this car except the AC and Vented Seats. If it wasn't for such a powerful smooth engine, I would be looking to trade this car in already because of AC.

I actually find the AC too cold sometimes (always set to 19C, with upper body set to full). On a hot day, it does take its time to cooldown the car, but nothing so off that it feels any different from any one of my other cars.

thats 66 degrees fahrenheit. I have mine down to 65, i never had a cars reading go below 70. that alone tells you there is a problem with cooling with this car. |

Many threads on this problem and crackling dashboard. I believe my car is fine, this is a bmw engineering mistake. It does work, but my 2014 535 eorked much much better.

I live in Phoenix, so yeah, this is a problem for me...I purchased my 530i in March of this year when it was considerably cooler than it is currently. About a month ago I noticed the same behavior regarding throttle input and air volume. When left for a couple hours in the sun the car cannot blow cold air.
Immediately after starting the ac will produce a high volume of air, but it is not very cold. Then when driving as soon as you accelerate the volume of air stops. Lift off the gas and it slowly will build up again. Come to a stop and it will produce a high volume again, but as soon as you accelerate it repeats the process. Does not behave like this when it is covered or in a garage though, but I still think the air is not very cold, especially compared to my A6. Currently at my dealership to have them look at it... will let you know what they say. Not my first issue with this car unfortunately. Last edited by 911Fanatic; 06-21-2017 at 03:55 PM.. So I agree that BMW might have a systemic AC problem with the new 5. However, I don't think I am wasting my time. I cannot accept a new car that has this type of issue due to the extreme heat in AZ. If they cannot resolve it, then perhaps this is the beginning of a lemon law claim. The dealership said they were working with BMW support (whatever that is). Early indicators is that the ac blower is losing power somehow (really!?). They are not sure when they will know how to resolve or if parts are required. I am not anticipating getting my car back this week. |

The AC certainly does have issues... Shorter people who sit close to the steering wheel will not have the same problem as someone taller with the seat is further back. My wife finds the AC fine, I think it sucks balls.
My guess is it's simply the fans aren't as powerful as they should be... |

Is the problem in all versions of the G30? I have the M550i and we've had a few hot days around here and whenever I'm work, I just leave it in the open all day long. I really don't have problems with how the A/C cools down the car afterwards. Is there a way to create a poll?

Never buy a first year model from BMW/Audi/MB. In most cases there are some meaningful issues early on which are fixed later. It's best to wait for the LCI, but at the very least avoid the first year, read the forums, and wait until the issues are identified and addressed by the manufacturer before buying.
