Steering column adjustment

Anybody know if the range of adjustment is the same for the manual and electric steering columns?
The demo car I had was fitted with electric adjustment, and I felt it didn't quite go low enough for my liking.. just a fraction more would have been perfect for me.
I'm kinda hoping the manual one will go a smudge lower.. anyone able to confirm if it does?

That's the main reason why I got rid of the car. The steering minimum position is too high. Crucial mistake on bmw part. Impossible to enjoy

Don't know but suggest sitting in one in a dealership first to try.

Ive placed my order for one with the manual adjustment, I'm just hoping it will go slightly lower, if not I'll just have to live with it for the next 3 or 4 years.

@mbVSBMW was yours manual or electrically adjusted?

That's a long time in a car that does not adjust to your requirements, not me I want to driv one first, getting a 540i test drive down here is almost imposible, I have the 2017 M3 CP at the moment but the 540i could be the car for me next year.

I had a 4 day test drive, and everything else is great, really like the car. I also tried an A4 190tdi s line Quattro for a few days and I didn't like the way it drove, mainly the steering which was slow and had a distinct lack of of self centring. The G30 is in a different class

I also think it does not go as low as I would like it to (electric adjustment)
I had to adjust the seat a bit higher than I normally would.

I normally put the seat to the floor, have the steering column all the way down and all the way out, it's my default position in pretty much every car.

amazing how different we all are. given we are all different builds and heights.
I am 5'10" and put the seat at its highest as I dont like to feel like I am sitting on the floor and to allow me to see the edges of the car.
each to their own obviously.

I'm with you AP, I like to see the extremities of the car if I can, London tunnels are tight.

Don't think BMW design for the "racing driver position".

If you watch the BMW driving school instructor setting up the recommended driving position, you are sitting far too low.

Instructor obviously doing it wrong lol

It's all about the centre of gravity! (It probably makes no difference at all to a road car, but for me it's comfy)

I was on a BMW experience last year and the circuit instructor said nothing about me dropping the seat to the floor.

In that event I had a passenger seat run in a race prepped M235 with a pro touring car driver at the wheel (which was fecking awesome btw.. the grip from slicks is something else) and my seat was bolted to the floor, so there must be something in the low seating position.

As for seeing the corners of the car.. I can never see the corners no matter how high I am, I get a feel where the corners are through driving the thing.. I thought everyone did that

That?s tall in my books, I?m just 5?6?

Driving has always been a guessing game for me when it comes to seeing the front end of my car

Sorry kinda off road errr off topic but as you mentioned about guessing game for front ends in old days some drivers fitted bumper staffs to help them guide thru the narrow parts of the streets when making maneuvers .
Yes, parking sensors are definitely helping
Back to the topic ,yes I think finding a perfect steering column adjustment has been a challenging for me too . I slightly move it towards me without rising it up much otherwise I need to move the seat as well

Didn't the old w140 s class have little posts (like aerials) that raised out of the rear wings to aid placement before parking sensors were invented?

Yes, I remember those , must be a big deal back in 1990s .Those cars were over engineered as well considering having a power interior mirror
