Oil level above maximum
I have had my G30 520D for about 5 months now and It has randomly come up with this message about the oil level has increased, I have never added oil to this new car so this seems very odd, has anybody else come across this issue?

p.s. (i) this is a potentially very bad thing (ii) I'm not an expert, it's just that this happened to me on a previous car and I'm not sure how else the oil level could rise on its own in an otherwise perfectly working new-ish diesel engine.

This is what I was thinking, I can think of no reason as to why my oil level would rise on its own. I have got it booked back in with the dealership but his will not be until the end of next month, I have been very active with this vehicle, around 6200 miles in 5-6 months. |

Have you physically measured on the dipstick? I would and if high, try and get the appointment brought forward. At least monitor the oil level on the dipstick. |

The vehicle doesn't come with a dipstick it is all electronically monitored, I plan on calling the dealership as soon as to try and get an earlier appointment, but an issue like this would be covered by the manufacturers guarantee so I am not too stressed, maybe get a new vehicle

I know this is an old thread. I had the same issue and BMW Assist decided to come to pick up the vehicle which was surprising. I now got the car back from the dealer who says it was a faulty reading from the sensor. They've re-coded the car. I'm a bit sceptical about the explanation as I had to ask them few times to get a response.
Dantheman90 What did they tell you? |

I have a G31 530d Touring, and this same issue has arisen with my car - it has been in to BMW (Blue Bell, Crewe) and they have told me that they can't find any problems. Driving my car back from the dealership, the warning flashed on the screen again. Not impressed.

My car has gone back to BMW - what explanation did you receive after you "probed" them??

I'll let you know - thanks for the update!
(I thought the system software updated itself automatically such that you always had the most up to date version anyway?? Obviously not....!) |

No. It's only the maps that update automatically. Even that's not as timely as you'd like them to be.

BMW have advised me that they will be changing the oil and updating the system software - they have no explanation as to why this issue has arisen, but they tell me that "these actions normally get rid of the problem". Based on their comments, clearly this is something that happens a lot.

Yes - but still no real explanation of the underlying issue.

I had the same issue. BMW changed the oil and reprogramed the car. Oil level this time was between min and max. I returned to the dealer the next day for explanation. They said that that the instructions they had from Germany is to put half litre less than the usual. Since then I have being monitoring my oil levels. For a couple of weeks it's has been on half way between min and max. Then started going up to two thirds and now it's on max. I have taken the car back twice to BMW but they keep saying there is nothing wrong with my oil levels!

I mentioned it in the other thread but a bunch of new Audis are having the same issue. Audi issued a TSB and dealers are replacing faulty units with new ones under warranty.
