Lost trunk kick function with diffuser

It seems like ever since I unplugged the system to install a rear diffuser I have lost the kick function. I ensured that everything is plugged in correctly but I still can't get the kick to work. Are there issues with unplugging certain items while the car is unlocked? Physically there isn't much of a difference between where the system was in the OEM position and the new diffuser position. Also not sure if I should unplug the batteries for a couple minutes to clear out whatever bugs are lingering, this cars electronics make me worry about unplugging the battery.

I've done a lot of research on this. I've talked with a BMW service Foreman and no one can seem to tell me why but installing a rear diffuser disables the kick trunk function.

This is true for the bmw m Performance diffuser and other 3rd party diffusers.

All I can find out is that it happens but not why it how to prevent it from happening.

That's why I decided to wrap the gray part of the rear bumper instead of installing a diffuser. It looks really good (not quite as good as a nice diffuser) and the kick trunk function works.

Only thing I can think of is maybe the way the cables were wrapped behind the oem diffuser was specific to its operation...I'm going to see about playing with it this weekend.

so I found that if I kick directly where the module is on the right side of the diffuser it seems to work.

Strange. I find it that it works intermittently closer to the driver side. It's worked twice. Haven't been able to do it since. I have been using it on my old f10 550i and miss it in the new car. I have the M performance diffuser and i ordered the car with it, so it was installed at vpc by bmw. Hope someone has a fix for it soon.

Which diffuser do you have? Mine still works with this one.

I bought 2 diffusers off ebay - the first one, which I returned, made the kick non-operational. The second one works perfectly. Very odd...

interesting... not sure what you disconnected or why. I installed a rear diffuser and didn't disconnect anything. Now, there are times, not often, where the kick feature doesn't always work but I did find if I touch the tip of my foot to the bottom of the diffuser there's never a problem with it working.

Hey all

I know when installing the genuine BMW M performance diffuser you need to code it to the car and then the comfort access works perfectly. This apparently does not work at all with the carbon one

Thanks

Think it may have to do with the increased amount of plastic between your foot and the sensor.

This happened in my f10 as well. Never figured out why it stopped working but honestly not a big deal. I mean who actually uses it. I mean you kinda look stupid using it anyways.

theres a youtube video of a guy fixing the problem of losing the kick function after fitting diffuser by spacing the lower half of the diffuser with plastic washers if its a 2 piece diffuser, not sure how that fixes the problem but its a good informative video
