Saw this on a local used car dealer's site. The stripes aren't even in the correct order.

Do you guys know what is even weirder? A couple of years ago they started doing this in every other market than the US, if you got a non-M car with "M-Sport" trim level they put small M badges on the fenders and a few other places throughout the car. That's how it comes stock from the factory if you only tick the "M-Sport" box. It's all about snobbery and brand appearance, unfortunately for BMW it will be a short-lived experiment in brand dilution.

There is zero evidence that what you’re saying is true. Considering the unprecedented manufacturing delays the restyled BMW’s are selling very well. In a few years the great grille issue will be nothing but a bunch of archived threads.

Or are you disputing the fact of brand dilution?

Having said that, note that the new 2 doesn't have the beav... er, I mean, enormous grille and draw your own conclusions about what that means going forward. Could mean smaller grilles and a bunch of archived threads, the latter because everybody who cares enough to post about it has repressed the memory. P.S. My favorite grille joke is still Sreten's (M539 Restorations on YouTube) comment when a late '90s 850i right kidney fell on his foot: "If this had been a new 7-series, it would have crushed my foot." |

Or that if you tick the "M-Sport" option on your build sheet, then the vehicle arrives festooned with "M" branding all over the place. When in reality, besides a few suspension pieces and some bumpers - it is the exact same car as one without the "M-Sport" option.

True. I just lump everything in that square between Simi Valley/Thousand Oaks/Westlake all into the same area. LOL!

T.O. and Westlake are comparable. Simi Valley and anything eastof T.O. and Westlake are two different worlds. But, they all have bored wifes/divorced women.

Of course it's getting a diluted a bit, but stock M badges are not "fake" M badges, just like stock M performance cars are not "fake" M cars. So this discussion is somewhat off-topic for this (light-hearted) thread. |

You cannot seriously say that they are not putting more emphasis on the M branding on non-M cars with every generation.

My E36 318ti had M badges on the sides and an M Sport steering wheel. M sport models started a long time ago. And yes the badges were factory badges on a US model. |
