Resonator delete experiences
I know many of you have done a resonator delete on the M550.
I cannot find a shop to do it. Have called multiple who turned me down, took it to one who put it in a lift and said they couldn't bend the pipes over the crossmember * Am I just having bad luck in finding a shop or did anyone else experience this? Also if you had it done in and around Philly - let me know where! |

I did it myself, bought the Dinan X Pipe and a hand held pipe cutter (the one that sort of looks like pliers and chainsaw chain) took literally a minute to cut it off, unbolted the front, then bolted the Dinan on. Probably took 1-2 hours total because I was being extra careful. It sounds AMAZING! On my 2021 M550i. In comfort it’s definitely louder with a great tone and VERY nominal/limited pops and bangs. But if you change to sport+…very loud with pops and bangs.

A shop just cut mine off and welded straight pipes on. Took 30 min. Loud when flaps are open with pops on downshifts and still quiet in comfort mode with flaps closed.

Tried doing same on 19 m760 and they didn't have pipe I think 3.15", where M550 has like 10cm smaller. I was thinking your one job is to have exhaust pipes since they are an exhaust shop!

M550i is 2.75” (euro) and most shops would have 3”. My local exhaust shop in Australia just welded in an off the shelf x-pipe.

Yes! The directions from Dinan were very good. Just two simple cuts on the stock muffler (at the bmw dimples) then the stock one unbolts off and the new x-pipe bolts on. Simple install and the x-pipe sounds very good!

Just had mine done yesterday, any muffler shop should be able to do this and they don't bend the pipes to go around the cross bar they go under it. I ordered a magnaflow x-pipe on amazon for about $30. Less than an hour to install and around 300 total including the x-pipe.
