Think liability here, because that's what is driving some of the issue. A manufacturer would never knowingly equip a car with tires that had a lower or even speed rating than the car was capable of attaining. A sustained higher speed than the tire is rated presents the "possibility" of a catastrophic tire failure/loss of control/accident/injury or death. Needless to say that would open the door to law suits. They will always opt for a higher speed rating as a buffer, in this case an approximate 30 MPH buffer. The other day I floored it in my M550 and the car was pulling like a jet fighter...right until it hit 130 mph and then everything stopped LOL. It is a very noticeable wall you run into.
Odd thing is, I could swear my ActiveHybrid 3 would go to 135 before it was limited... My car came with the German manufactured 19" Goodyear Eagle all seasons - I assumed those were good to 150 for a short run as they were equipped on an M550i but perhaps not. |

You might check the speed rating on the sidewall. If it is a Y rating, (186) it still might not satisfy BMW's high speed handling requirements. All season tires have a different tread pattern and a different rubber compound than summer only performance tires.

I see those guys on youtube, AutoTopNL, doing wide open throttle blasts on the autobahn and I cringe. They're doing this in other peoples cars where they don't know the quality of the work done to them. I would be inspecting every inch of those cars before going anywhere...maybe they do and they don't video any of it. |

It wasn't straining at all. Had plenty of pull and plenty of power I hadn't even tapped. I've actually never floored it because I've never needed to. And that's in a stock 2018 540i.
