At these prices, I would go with a lithium starter batt for the weight savings. More power and lighter. The only drawback is cost, which should eventually come down.

I did and we both got a good chuckle out of that! I think the car was just being a bit preemptive!

I can't stand the start/stop. I turn it off every time I get in the car. Wish it didn't exist. No way it's actually saving much gas consumption or emissions.

Out of curiosity, i used eco mode and got reading that my engine is off for about 2.5 hours total in between fill ups, mostly city driving with lots of red lights… and while waiting in a drive thru. If i fill up 4x/month, thats 10 hours worth of gas saving. Optimistically 0.3 gallon/hr idle, i'd have saved 3 gallons ($12) per month.
Is it worth it? not to me, I dont think its helping much to reduce our population's total emission.

He's not too big on A/S/S... Defaulting to off can be coded. I did it on our old 2012 and current 2014 535 & 2019 540I.

My neighbor was a mechanic for the USPS. I asked him about wear & tear on the starter as the PO vehicles are stopped and started many times a day. He said A/S/S is very hard on starters and severely shorten their lives. He said they replaced starters every couple of years or so.

It's just a load of crap that they can sell to governments that have a hard on for these quick fixes for a hundred year issue. And they can sell to the consumer that just likes to think they're being green but can't take the ego hit of a Prius.

And it's just something else to break.

If I thought all this electric car business and hybrids was actually putting a dent in human emissions around the world, I'd be more willing to happily take the hit. It's just an easy place for politicians and activists to make themselves feel better.

Okay I'll end my tantrum. I'm in my thirties and it depresses me to think the fun and satisfaction of a gasoline powered drivetrain will be a niche in my future.

Would a local bmw mechanic be able to do that? I'm admittedly not very confident with that sort of thing. Mine has factory warranty now and will for two years, but I would love to not have to hit that off button every day!

It's all about CAFE; nothing else. Manufacturers do whatever they can to eek out a few tenths of an MPG, extrapolated over the entire fleet. It also saves us from the gas-guzzler tax.

It's pretty easy with Bimmercode.

I bought used G31 with BMW Premium selection warranty/insurance few weeks back. The panorama was being funny (not closing fully and retracting), so I thought I will test the warranty and took it to a dealer here (Cartec in Prague).

Today I was told by the technician it's because the battery is dead (never had a single issue) and failed "some tests". That's what causing the panorama issues. They sent it to the insurance company for approval. Out of curiosity I asked how much would I pay if the insurance company declines the claim - he said it comes to over 1,000 EUR with the "re-programming". It's ridiculous...

Are there any specs (except capacity - 105Ah) I should look for if I will replace the battery by myself?

Edit: I found it - I'll go for Varta - Silver Dynamic AGM 595 901 085

Don’t forget your will need to REGISTER the new battery so that the charging system will start with a new baseline and not continue to charge the new battery as if it was the old (discharged) battery.

Looks like you replaced the old battery with one of like kind (same specs)…if that is true…then you won’t need to CODE the new battery…but you will need to REGISTER it.
