so if your car has about a year left on the factory warranty the CPO coverage gives you one more year, and then you extend it two more - so you walk out the dealership with almost 4 years of bumper-to-bumper coverage.

I bought a 2018 CPOM 550 about a year ago and did the exact same thing I also spent the money for the extended service contract which goes up to 125,000 miles.

Also the CPO extension is not mileage based at all - purely measured on time - so you could drive the stink out of it and put on well over 100,000 miles and everything that goes wrong with it will be covered during that four year period.
Yes, I looked at those options, and with the M550i I think I will get that extended warranty (at least third party if not from BMW).

It's pretty wild that people are actually paying those fees. The line item descriptions for the fees were laughable. I remember someone on another thread saying that a FL dealer tacked on so many fees that it added >30% to his OTD price (apparently it is common practice in FL; he ended up buying his BMW from out of state). I am looking nationwide though, and happy to purchase the car from even the west coast if it is the right fit, so it doesn't bother me a whole lot other than the inconvenience. The shipping cost will be a fraction of the dealer fees here.

Thank you all very much for the discussions in this thread. I pored over every comment and reply, and used the info to do my research on the various packages and engine iterations on the G30 M550i. HerkHealer's post #59 was very influential in convincing me that I wanted the MY20 engine upgrades (thanks!). I also decided that DHP was a must. So, I spent the past several months searching, agonizing over and forgoing very nice 2019s, until finally this month I found a MY20 that checked my boxes. I made the purchase online from another state and picked up The Beast this weekend. Here are the details:

2020 M550i xDrive, 36k miles, $59,250.
Carbon Black Metallic/Black Nappa Leather
Dynamic Handling Package
Driving Assistance Plus
Executive Package
Luxury Seating Package
Parking Assistance Package
Ceramic Controls
Heated Steering Wheel
Front and Rear Heated Seats
20" M wheel 668M w/ perf rft
Wheel Locks - Spline Style

Wife and I flew out to pick up the car and drove 900 miles back home. I have to say, I thought some owners were exaggerating when they said this was the best driving car they have owned, but...OMG! This car is SO effortless in its pull, so planted, and so smooth that I thought I was riding on air yet riding on rails at the same time. It doesn't feel large at all and I feel in total control of its handling. The drive home was incredibly comfortable and my wife commented multiple times on how she wasn't tired after hours sitting in the car and how fresh I looked after all that driving. No body aches or stiffness after 10+ hours on the road! Unbelievable!

Once again, thank you all for making this a very helpful thread and I couldn't be happier to be in an M550i! Some quick cell phone pics attached.

Congrats! Great car with all the packages too!
$59k price is outstanding for what you've got.

One suggestion. Get rid of the Goodyear Runflats and put Michelin PS4S tires on. Or something similar.
The runflats have super stiff sidewalls and the difference is incredible. If you think its smooth now, just wait.

Enjoy !

Thanks! It was a clean car and priced well so I pounced on it and was able to negotiate a good deal. I read about the tires post-fact (i.e. after returning home) and I was surprised at the disconnect between my (limited) experience versus all the negative reviews I read. That said, the roads out here are quite nice so I'm sure that helped the Goodyears save face. Perhaps the difference against Michelins or Contis is more apparent on rough pavement where the Goodyears did get loud and the car lost its buttery smoothness.

Congrats man. The ride looks awesome. I myself picked up a 2019 M550i xdrive CPO until Dec 2023 for $53k + TTL. My budget was close to $50k so didn't look at MY20. The car had 39k miles when I bought it and had all the options I think were available that year with a MSRP of $96k. The car is amazing to drive and I love the power for sure. The only issue I have with it is the comfort. For some reason either I am too sensitive or the RFTs are bad (though they are new), but I can feel the road texture when I drive it. Will be changing to Michelin AS 4 this week (since I live in Chicago) and will take it in for a thorough check up before the warranty expires.

Looks like we have the same color combo, congrats to you too - that sounds like a loaded car! I think the combo of road surface + RFTs might be a significant contributor to the issue. As someone who drove plenty in IL, WI, MN, etc., I am aware of how bad the roads are there. On my drive back home this weekend, I thought of your thread and was on the lookout for any discomfort. Other than on rough pavement occasionally, the vast majority of the ride was very smooth. Hope you figure it out soon.
