Very good chance the 705 will poke. The 706s on mine do. I tried to compensate with the smaller tire size. I also added the wheel arch extensions in the rear so the poke is not noticeable. Have you tried just mounting the wheels to test fit? I have 8 series envy. Would love to move up but not currently feasible. Please post a pic of your 8. |

Here is my Carbon Black M550 with an 8" square snow set up. Then my 2nd M5 (Brands Hatch Gray) with the 705M (Black powder coated) look. You can see why I like the look of your car so much. ![]() Then my M850 utilizing the same 8" square snow set up from the M550 And finally the M850 with summers on (wanting to go wider) Haven't done a 705M test fit yet. They fit on an M8, but I think there is just a bit more room in the back than an M850 has. |

No rubbing. They clear the suspension. I went 275/30/20. Hoping the lower profile would avoid that issue. So far so good. Probable wouldn't work if car was lowered but I have no plans to do so. I really like the way it handles with the wider tires. Seems more planted IMHO. I took an 840 for a test drive and I really liked it. Have not driven an 850. How does the 850 compare performance wise vs the 8 cylinder 5ers you've had? |

I had a 2011 F10 535xi and then went into a 2014 F10 550xi. Yeah, V-8 time. Then the G30 M550, same HP as the 2014. Nice model upgrade. The F90 M5s are insane. Had both a base and an LCI Comp. Great power, great handling. The ride is a bit harsher over the M550. There are ALWAYS trade-offs. Then when they upped the HP on the M550 and M850 to 523 I felt those might be the cars to do it all. I drove a friend's M550 and was impressed with the power. I loved the 8 styling ever since it came out. I was burning up the miles on my M5C lease and didn't didn't want to wait and see where interest rates were going by 2023. High rates at this price point really dig in to your payment. So I drove an M850 and was able to snag a great deal. I don't really miss the power, however, I do miss the spirited 2-lane driving. But, it's fabulous around town. I drove a G30 540 as a loaner a few times. Was really impressed. Have not driven an 840. The 8s are big, long, heavy cars. It might feel under-powered. The V-8 really checks the boxes. Is your 540 Dark Graphite? |

The 840 I drove seemed to have at least as good or better Perf then my 5. As cool as V8 is I could live with the B58. I have a V8 weekend toy (manual). It is a bit older but I also have an upgraded exhaust which really makes it sound great. In all honesty my 5 may actually be quicker. But there is something about a top down V8, rowing through gears drive on a summer's evening. I could probable sell both and get into an 8. But just don't want to let go of the toy. |

OEM M Sport suspension
20x9 20x10.5 Avant Garde 245/275 The rear 275 looks too stretched on OEM suspension. I'm thinking about going 245 or 255 /295 next time. |

Holy shit! That's no good. 😬. The more I look at things and think about it all, I'm probably gonna stick with 19"s. Especially since I'm getting new rubber tomorrow and wife said I better not buy new wheels since I got these less than a year ago 🤣🤣

The other benefit is forged wheels are stronger and can be lighter (lots of brands out there). Hence the $$$ ![]() |

I wonder if there's any effect on the ride with the stronger wheels. |

The effect of my wheels are that they are stronger and lighter. Less rotational mass, you can feel it.
So far I've blown 3 tires in the last year. 2 due to really large screws in both rears thanks to all the new homes being built around me and 1 front passenger tire from a large pot hole on the freeway that I couldn't avoid. If your roads are crap, the 20s will not be your friend. 19s are nice because the rubber will absorb a lot of the bumps and they have potentially better grip. Tires are also cheaper and easier to come by. |
