BM3 Failing to register - Something blocking?
Hey guys I figured I post and see if this has happened to anyone else. Purchased a BM3 license - tried flashing it on my 2018 M550 using windows/Mac/ENET to Lighting, all with the same result. BM3 ODB Agent is reading the VIN, however unable to read any IDs/software etc or register the vehicle. After having a remote session with the tunningfreaks team, they advised something is blocking the ODB agent ie some coding/piggyback etc - couldn't provide me with any additional info. The only thing that Ive done to the car was LCI tails - which needed a software update, basic Bimmercode coding and catback Remus.

Can you maybe try from a laptop? Different ENET cable? Does Bimmercode work using that phone and ENET cable? PTF tech support is pretty good so I doubt that I could offer many suggestions that they wouldn't have already.

I'm sure others have tuned using BM3, that have basic coded their car, or done an LCI taillight mod, or even an aftermarket exhaust.. |

I know it's a longshot but have a look in this video at about the 2:00 mark where he's talking about the proper Ethernet adapter to use with an iPhone. I know that you've tried multiple platforms but who knows if this could be your problem?

This is frustrating, I might take it to DME have them diagnose it if they can. I can't find any info about this exact issue. 2 things might be happening, somehow my DME is fu*ked, or its locked and in need of bench unlocking without the agent confirming this, which it usually does right away after connecting.. |

What is your I-Step version? Even on a 2018 that wasn't originally locked, flashing an I-Step later than mid-2019 or something (don't know the exact date) will lock your DME and it needs to be bench unlocked.

S15A-18-11-545 What's odd is the vehicle details/ID info a\is all blank. Plus the DME manufacture date is a default value. Last edited by maDjzo; 04-20-2023 at 08:32 PM.. |

Well that is weird. Have you tried reading the data with E-Sys, Bimmercode, Protool, etc.? My initial thought is to update your I-Step and then get a bench unlock. If nothing else, your software is almost 5 years old so it's overdue. But unfortunately I can't guarantee that doing this would fix the problem.

Flashing as we speak.
Update: stage 1 93 flashed… Smile on face engaged… Pulls hard, comfort feels like sports mode. Sport+ is insane, nose of the car just lifts, seems to just want to keep pulling more and more. With the catback Remus it’s meaner and more aggressive, crackle and pops are longer and seem to snap louder. I flashed the OTS burble setting just to try it, and it really amplified the exhaust. Sounds amazing. As of now, feels like a different car. |

So the car developed hesitations during aggressive pulls. It would jerk as if losing power for a split sec, Misfired over and over especially over 3k rpm, while cruising and then mashing the throttle it was most prevalent. Data logs showed all good info except misfires in 3rd gear on 3 of the logs.
While driving and overtaking yesterday the car must have had successive misfires and shut down cylinder 4 completely. Lost power and car went into limp mode. Today was able to get plugs swapped, which solved the issue as of now, but I had to order coils too as a few of the existing ones looked off. Coils, tranny flush, diff flush and TC flush coming next week. |

Sorry to hear about that! You might consider re-flashing the stock tune and trying to reproduce the problem. If it doesn't reappear, then re-flash BM3. If it develops those symptoms again, now you've isolated it to the tune.
That maintenance work sounds expensive! Are you doing it yourself? |
