Hello, i recently got the 2023 BMW X3 M40i and I love it. So, i am planning to do an oil change every 5k (which i have 50 or so miles to go) as I plan to keep this car for a long time. My understanding was it will need oil change every 10k mile and the BMW maintenance service will cover it but anything else in between is out of pocket. But, I started to get a msg to do a oil change at 6K time or Feb 2024. is that normal? should I still do the oil change at 5 K, ask them not to reset the meter and again at the 10K time as planned? i am assuming it will show a service overdue warning in this scenarios. any thoughts? thanks in advance

It is saying an oil change is due in 6000 miles, not at 6000 miles. The mileage will count down and service will be due when it is down to less than 1000 miles or February 24 whichever comes first.

It is unlikely that BMW will do an oil change out of interval and not reset the meter. An independent shop might do that for you, or obviously you can change the oil yourself.

BMW did it for me per my request. And gave me $72 discount. I did my first oil change at 3400 miles and going for a free oil change that is due on Monday. It's just over 10K now.

Well that's awesome! Many years ago I was told no, that it's part of the procedure. Granted I hated that dealer so. That is great news for the rest of us that it might be a possibility!
