DaWhole9's M550i Build Thread

Here is my Alpine White 2018 M550i. The plan is to do some mild mods, mostly cosmetic and enjoy the car. I am happy with the performance stock, so not looking to do any engine mods. Maybe exhaust for looks and sound, springs, coding.

First Mod...remove the front license plate. It was mounted using the tow hook. There were already holes drilled. I will fill those and touch them up at some point.

Tinted windows. My F10 had tinted windows and the interior temps were much cooler. I am having the windows, minus the windshield and the sunroof done with a light/medium ceramic tint.

Gloss black Kidney Grills. I dont like the the multiple colors on the car. 1, gloss black, and bronze. So the plan is to replace the bronze exterior trim pieces in gloss black.

Starting with the Kidney Grill. Got it from Amazon. Fit was great. Simple swap.

More gloss black pieces. Side vents and mirror caps. Amazon for the mirror caps and eBay for the side vents. There are lots of parts that are stick on, I made sure the ones I got were direct swaps for the original pieces.

Coding!!!

Got a Vlink BM+ OBD adapter and Bimmercode and I coded a few things. M startup screen, 200 mph speedo and the real reason I got Bimmercode was to code full screen CarPlay! I was on software version Y so it was ready for simple coding to change the CarPlay from oartial screen to fullscreen.

MSS Springs!

I want to get the right stance for the car and i was debating H&R and MSS. I have the DHP, Dynamic Handling Package with adaptive dampers and Inwanted to retain full functionality of that system so Coilovers were out of the question. H&R were cheaper than MSS but reviews have said the ride can be more harsh and you get the drop you get. MSS has been reviewed to retain OEM ride quality and you get height adjustability. So i went with MSS.

MSS Springs and 15mm spacers installed! I have no complaints! Glad I went with the MSS system. I dropped the rear all the way, 30mm, and leveled the front. Ride quality is like stock but the stance! The 15mm spacers all around pushed rhe wheels out perfectly. Once it settles a bit I will fine tune the ride height. I may raise it just a tad. Nice to have that capability.

You won’t regret getting just a normal front lip. It changed the whole look of the car

Got my Gloss black M550 badge from IND in the mail today.

*Mini rant...I ordered from somewhere else as IND wanted to charge something like $30 to ship...I found it closer, and it shipped for $10 and was here the next day. OK rant over.*

Install was easy...

I used masking take to mark where the previous letters were and to make sure the new letters went on straight and exactly where the old ones were.

Used a heat gun and dental floss to remove the old letters. cleaned off the excess glue and carefully put the new letters on.

The new badges had self adhesive already on them so just peel off and place.

It's subtle but it fits the whole "Stormtrooper" theme.

Next up to install the Glass Black front lip.

Then figure out to do about the exhaust. Option 1: Keep the stock muffler and maybe do a resonator delete and replace the tips with round tips or Option 2: RC Tuning or Remus Cat back system.
