JB+ Risk/Worst Case Scenario?
Hi All,
I was thinking of adding a JB+ to my 2021 540i. It's a CPO with a couple years of warranty left. I know that anytime you piggyback there is a risk of voided warranty, etc. Does anyone have any idea what the risk is? Like worst case scenario - is there even a chance that my engine blows with such a minor tune? I'd like just a little more oomph from my engine. Thanks all. |

In the worst case, yes, many things can happen. But in 15 years, and after tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of users, nothing like that has ever occurred.
There’s a risk in everything, just like driving a car has a risk of an accident, but you still drive it daily and not worry about it. If you want a 100% guarantee, keep it stock. If you're okay with a 99.99% chance, go ahead and tune it.

+1 to what mike@x-ph.com said.
OopsAllBears I too have a 2021 540i CPO, with racechip, AA downpipe and 2 years of warranty remaining. Recently had some minor warranty work done to my car with all mods in place. Planning to tune it to stage 2 in coming months. I was in the same situation as you about tuning but gradually I am getting bolder and comfortable with it. All I can say is that the elevated experience justifies it for me and it always helps to have an understanding service advisor. All the best with your modding journey. Cheers.

I also have a CPO 540i with 3 years of warranty and my bmw service advisor told me piggy is fine. Said don’t flash the ecu and bmw don’t care. Every dealer is different I would ask your serbice advisor.
