How to properly access telematics unit
Hi all
I need some help understanding How to properly access the telematics unit on my BMW 530i from 2019. I have watched some videos online and have seen where I take the initial trim off. But then I can’t understand how to get more of the headliner off to actually get access to the unit and change the battery. The last time I did this, it damaged the telematics unit as there wasn’t enough space. Any video or picture instructions for this please? |

The official way is to remove the headlining. In order to do this, the side trim needs to be removed.
Most feel this is not worth the effort and expense. Take it to the dealer and this is what they will quote for even if they subsequently use the quick method you used before. |

Well i thought from your earlier post that you had gained access and snapped off the retaining clip to which i suggested using tape to hold it back in place?
Perhaps you never did? |

It’s hard to explain. I took off the one piece that goes in the circled part
Picture is from Google but you get my point. From that I was trying to pull it down but I couldn’t even get the battery out because I think there is not enough room. So my question is how do I get more space without room the handle bars and other pillars? |

Ok, so once that trim is removed, you pull down gently the headlining. You can then see the battery door clip. Unclip it with a screwdriver. The door drops down and out comes the battery just like that.
Replace and push the door up.if that's the clip you've broken, you'll have to get some tape on it to hold it shut. The trim clips can be sourced from a dealer cheaply. I did it so you can too |

Yeah that’s the part where I’m stuck. I was pulling down on the headliner and it’s not moving at all it was like it’s stuck. I could see There is two clips on either side of it still, but I couldn’t figure out if they have a screw or something holding them down because I literally put all my weight on it and nothing moved.
Yes, the clip that broke was the battery compartment clip on the telematics unit. Is that the clip you’re referring to? That is cheap to replace because the dealer told me I have to replace the entire telematics box to get the battery back in place. I am assuming then the alternative is to just use tape for it? Thanks for your help on this either wayI hope to at least save the £1500 cost their charging me to replace the unit and labour. |

Did you do the work or did you allow the garage to remove the headlining. If the latter then it's possible that they dislodged/trapped/cut wiring to the camera above the headlining.
Just replacing the battery alone would not cause a front camera error. |

The garage did the work, so not due what they did wrong. Also they’re terrible so don’t want to take it back to them. The error disappeared when I turn the car off and on again
