Installing M badges

I recently purchased a 2020 M550i and have come to learn that the European and Canadian versions have M badges on the side of the car. Some are down low some are up high just above and behind the frontwheel wells, which is the placement I prefer.
My wife, I mean Santa Claus got me the M badges for Christmas and I’m wondering where do I take them for installation and does anybody have a set of measurements they could share so that they might be placed exactly where BMW would have placed them? And no, there is no way I could do this myself. If I did, they would become W badges lol.

There is a thread around here with the exact measurements on where they need to be placed.

Yeah, there is definitely a long thread on everything you ever wanted to know about ///M fender badges, I may have started it, can't remember, but definitely in the thread a lot.

rlampare - it's an easy DIY. They come with 3M tape applied and you just peel the red and stick them where they go. I made a schematic for my up high install (which I think you said you prefer). Make sure Santa got you the Cerium ones (vs. Chrome) or they won't match your other badges.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

It’s actually very easy with the right tools:
Small level
Painters tape
Wax pencil
Measuring tape……small but flexible.

I have the M on the fender…lower level as well. The badges I purchased where the X5 cerium grey color fender badge as these were the exact same size and color as the rear trunk lid M of the M550i.

At first, I ordered the X3 version which is slightly smaller….too small for me.

Yeah, I listed most of these tools on my schematic in the top right. I’d say marking the right spot with the painters tape is the key.

Yup, I made sure the placement of the bottom tape mark out was level and placed it on the top line. Of course with my OCD, I put the level on the badge too before permanently sticking.

Definitely was a fun project EXCEPT I had to do it twice. I bought the chrome ones first and put them on!

Thanks (cash money) after reading your text, I’m gonna go back and check the as yet uninstalled badges to the existing M550 badge on the back of the car to make sure they are an exact match.

It turns out I did have the shiny chrome ones that didn’t match the cerium gray badge on the back of the car… I found the X5 badge you described in your previous post and purchased it… The cost was $115 though I found similar from China for about 20 bucks… I must have rocks in my head but purchased $$115 ones. I went to my body shop and they said they have their guy put on the badges for the cost of tipping him.

I’ve been real happy with the OEM badges. I think Impaid close that amount as well. I think they will last longer and they all match. It will look badass when they are applied to the fender.

Hey guys, I am back. You wouldn’t think something as simple as a couple of badges would warrant all this discussion but…
I finally got the cerium colored fender badges for my M550i. The good news is they’re a perfect color match to the existing badge on the trunk of the car. The other news (I won’t say bad news) is the font size is a bit smaller than the trunk badge. I’ve been thinking about it and looking at as many pictures as possible, and I believe that at least some of the OEM fender badges out there are purposefully a bit smaller than the trunk badge. So, I am going to go forward with the installation and I think these are going to look great. Wish me luck.!!!

They are supposed to be smaller and subtle.

Cool… So glad you jumped in and said that now I can sleep tonight.
I have multiple pictures including ones that you posted and the drawing with the the measurements you posted and a very good mental picture of how to do this. It’s just that I don’t have a steady hand with these sort of things. So, I’ve lined up “the badge guy“ at a body shop where I’ve been a customer for 30 some odd years to install them next Wednesday. Thanks again, Joe.
