Comfort or Sport seats?
I am looking for a mile munching g30/g31 but was wondering if I should be looking for a car with comfort seats or will the standard M Sport seats be good enough for a regular 500 mile round trips. Any experience of either would be appreciated. Any opinions?

My standard M sport seats are super comfortable, soft yet supportive. I have driven that distance without any issues.
I'm not very heavy though, 70kg |

Thanks for that, I've seen a few posts saying they are not too comfortable but I'll not value them too much now as I'm struggling to find a phytonic blue or aventurine red anyway. Thanks again.

i bet the comfort seats are better but i find the M sport seats have been the best seats I've ever had, without having sat on the comfort spec |

Best thing is to try if you can.
We are all different shapes ! The comfort seats are if you look at these forums generally highly regarded . But you may find the sport ones more to your liking Arguably the sports seats are probably more “hugging” The comfort seats have 20 way adjustments so it might be more to your liking I don’t have massaging on my comfort seats but I’ve read that people say they can be a bit less comfortable than comfort without that feature You really need to try yourself though to see what works for YOU |

Ah, I was thinking about a 3 series and did research on them so maybe that's where I am getting confused. It's strange that the 3 and 5 sports seats are, by all accounts, so different, maybe I got it into my head that sports seats in general are not good for long distances but it sounds like the 5 sports seats would be fine. Trouble is with seats is that what feels ok on short journeys is sometimes not good at all day driving and you only find out once it's too late hence why I want to know before I buy. My current F10/F11 standard SE spec seats are supurb on long distances but similar don't seem to be available on the G series cars. Thanks for all your inputs

I think buying a used car is about trying to find a car that ticks the maximum amount of "boxes" that are important to you so comfort seats will now be less of a priority (although I would like them) than other things I would like. Thanks all for your inputs.

I think the most comfortable seats are comfort seats WITHOUT ventilation/massage. The fans/massage bladders take up a lot of space otherwise used by the seat cushion, this is one thing I'd change about my G30. Gimme a comfort seat with just heat and I'd be happy.

Right ok, that's interesting I think I'll look for them then in standard comfort form. Trouble is there's not many about at the moment that float my boat. Not in any great rush so I think I'll keep looking thanks. Any more options that are worthwhile in your opinion?

Depends on your age and physique. My G31 530d had M sport seats which looked great and very supportive. Couldn't get on with them, absolutely crippled my back and gave me raging cramps in my left leg after an hour or two. Tried all sorts but they simply weren't for me. My G31 Alpina has comfort seats with massage & ventilation, I can do unbroken 8 hrs stints without issue on them. The downside of comforts is they lack the lateral support you get with the M. The side bolsters will close up but if you're really throwing the car about (track day style) you end up clinging to the steering wheel for extra support. For reference I'm 65yrs, 6'2" muscular and about 190lbs.

OTOH the M sport seats in my M340i was like sitting on a stack of cardboard. i agree seats are very personal as every one has a different shape size and weight i can only imagine the comfort seats (without fan and massage) would be like travelling on a cloud. interestingly i sat in a 2019 M5 sport seat and drove around for an hour and didn't like the seat. it wasn't soft, wasn't supportive and didn't age well. |

they are different. 3 is like made of cardboard or something. 5 is made of some very squishy foam stuff. and mine is the hard leather, not even nappa or merino.

G31 here with comfort seats, no ventilation or massage. I haven’t tried the M sport seats, but the comfort seats are really very good, that’s coming from someone who’s last couple of cars would always cause a sciatica flare up.
I think the best thing about the comfort seats is how adjustable they are, the thigh support and the lower back support are amazing. As others have said, you do feel the compromise when doing a bit of spirited driving in that you are moving a bit more in the seat than you would like when going round the corners, although you can adjust the side bolsters to negate some of that |

Look at the seat controls on the side of the seat; IIRC, there should be 4 or 5 switches. Another giveaway is a passenger memory seat.
