Cap & Coolant Observation

Today I was cleaning the engine bay and noticed that my coolant cap on the far right where the 2 yellow arrows wasn’t line up, so I line them up and then said let’s check the coolant so I unscrewed the cap which was super easy I could use two fingers to turn which I said that was odd.

So now I’m thinking I need a new cap.
No leaks or CEL.

So, I took a few pics of the HT-12 coolant inside and was like, I think I’m good with the level but not really sure 😆.

Here’s a few pics.

So, what you think 🤔?

Thank you.

Coolant level looks fine. I usually fill mine right until it hits the max line, which sometimes results in it being slightly over. No big deal, it’s a BMW, some of it is gonna leak out anyway haha!

My old cap was very difficult to remove, not sure why. I had to have the radiator replaced by BMW (was out of town for work with my car when it failed - 120k miles on the car) and I had BMW install a new reservoir cap while they were at it. The new one is super easy to put on and remove. Both worked fine.

Check your cap and make sure the o-rings are still in good shape (and aren’t missing). As long as they’re good to go and you don’t see signs of leakage around the cap (dried white residue), then your cap is fine.

The caps do not screw on tightly by design. Don't worry as long as the arrows line up.
