Brake Fluid change cost

I'm sure this has been asked many times, but search of the forum yielded nothing on point.
Would anyone like to chime on what to expect to pay for a dealer to the brake fluid service (change)? I just want to know what to expect in case they quote a really inflated number.

Thanks!

Issue is moot, unless folks care to chime in anyway. Dealer quoted $150 for it, so they can't be gouging too badly

Id be asking does the fluid actually need changing? Its a sealed system after all.

Check the moisture content and make the decision based on that.

My independant BMW specialist shop charged me $162.50 out the door with tax. I don't believe the BMW dealer near me would have been much more. But note that every market is different and dealers can charge more or less.

Don't let just anyone perform a brake fluid change/bleed. You have to have the appropriate scan tool to open up the ABS valves to bleed it completely. Otherwise old fluid is left behind in the ABS system.

I just get fluid changes every two years in all my cars, but basing it on moisture content is a legit method as well. Ferrari since 2013 includes 7 years free maintenance with their cars, which includes brake fluid changes every other year. A few years ago, I heard they started using a moisture checking tool, and if it passes, they won't change it.

Both my 2021 540i and my wife's 2016 X3 notify me about brake fluid change.

I've only done the X3 currently. I use a "power" bleeder so I can do the job myself.

A quart of brake fluid and about an hour is all it cost me. With the power bleeder you don't have to worry about the reservoir going below the fill line and I just move from one wheel to the next bleeding the brakes.

I haven't opened the ABS with my scan tool which I didn't know I needed to do but I'll probably do that on the 540i and then see if I can do it on the X3 when it comes around again.

I didn't see that much difference in the color, just enough to tell when the old was out and the new was coming in (but really had to focus on the color) so I think the interval is pretty conservative.

I could check the moisture etc and do ABS but I'm not sweating it given how good the brake fluid looks at service time.

Running a quart through for $15 (and an hour of time) seems like a good compromise between never doing it and/or spending the time to get a moisture analysis and ABS etc.

I had my independent BMW specialist perform the brake fluid change last month. It came to just under $200.
