Hello BMW Community,
I hope you can help me troubleshoot an issue that started after performing some maintenance on my car. Here’s what happened: Faulty Spark Plugs: I recently installed some spark plugs that turned out to be faulty, which caused my engine to misfire. I took the car to BMW, and they provided me with new spark plugs. After replacing them, the car ran fine again. Air Filter Replacements: Along with the spark plugs, I also replaced the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. Everything seemed normal at first, but soon after, I began encountering a new problem. Error Codes: Since the filter changes, I’ve been getting persistent error codes P0420 & 20e120. I clear them, drive for a bit, and then the codes return. I’ve researched a bit and even tried adding CataClean Fuel Cleaner (16.7 oz) to the fuel, which seemed to help for a couple of days, but eventually, the codes came back. Additional Issue - Clicking Sound: In addition to the recurring codes, there’s now a noticeable clicking sound coming from the engine. The car was running perfectly fine before all of this work. I’m at a loss here and could really use some advice or direction on what might be causing these issues. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

Sounds like you botched your engine air filter replacement. Try redoing it, and make sure everything is seated properly so that there are no leaks.
Edit: I should mention that the hex code error is there because it detected that it's getting too much air, implying a leak before the compressor. |
