Just solved the mystery of why I’ve been hearing a clunking sound when turning coming from the rear of my car: the tow eye! It’s been rolling around in a space below the amp on the driver side rear well.

So the stupid question is: where does it actually belong? Owners manual says toolkit but there’s nothing below the storage door.

Searched the forum but have found an answer

My 24 X3 M40i had the option of "Anti-Dazzle Headlights" and I understand how to use the auto-highbeams, but is there a certain way to "use" anti-dazzle?

Edit: this was, in fact, a stupid question as the option was 5AP Decoding for no dazzle hgh bm, meaning I would have to actually code it in

That’s correct. And then it operates the same as turning on the auto headlights.

Anyone know a lubricant to clean up the door seals and prevent them from drying out/cracking?

I wipe it down with a damp shop towel and then apply either Gummipflege or petroleum jelly - i know this can have negative effect but i haven't seen that day yet lol

This is not intended as a lubricant but it is intended to prevent drying/cracking and has performed very well over many years. It's a white cream and does result in a nice black appearance for the rubber. I apply it with my fingers to get into all the nooks and crannies around the door seal profile.

This appears popular, as it’s specifically designed for seals. You can find it on ebay Uk, Amazon Uk etc

Nextzett GP contains Siloxanes and Silicones among other stuff.

Turtle was hybrid ceramic spray, using a foam applicator, is good to protect the outer pano roof seals from environmental UV, chemical etc attack

Turtle wax has really come out with some good stuff the last couple years, their Graphene Acrylic tire dressing stays on the tire through multiple washings/rainstorms and it's inexpensive. Going to checkout the spray you mentioned.

They do some great value stuff that works. The stuff I mentioned is safe on exterior plastic and glass. I don’t use it on the X3 paint though.

Think I’m going to try the Gummi Pflege, it’s extremely cheap on Amazon for the Liqui Moly variety.

Seems easy enough to apply, clean the seals then apply the Gummi Pflege and give it a few minutes to dry.

Start me up

What method do you guys and gals use to start the car?

Do you

Press and quickly release the start/stop button?

Or, do you

Press and hold the start/stop button until the engine turns over?

Just quickly press and release... there is no need to hold... pressing the button will automatically turn the starter until the engine starts.

To be completely truthful - I use the triple click on the remote key

Always press and quick release. Will try next time to hold it. Never did that! 🙂

Press and release.

If I used remote start, I still have to press and release despite the engine being engaged! I really only use remote start for very cold or hot days.

I use it EVERY single day because I want to hear the exhaust cold start from the outside with the exhaust flap fuse pulled.

Quick release… In retrospect, I’ve never owned a car that I needed to hold. Even my first car which had one of those cool German switchblade keys was just a quick flick and the car did the rest.

I've been doing press and quickly release since 2008 (my first car to have push button start).
