The (rather obvious) point is that no one knows as there is a lack of transparency from those who would like you to open your wallet.

Why?
Mate..for the few extra pounds I don’t really care why…I don’t have to pay the extra money that Shell V Power costs…but I do, I could use supermarket brand oil but I choose to use Castrol as they are BMW’s oil supplier, so why would I not have star marked tyres if bmw & the tyre company have designed & made a tyre to suite my specific car then why wouldn’t you…ok maybe some are running their bmw on a tight budget & if that’s the case I don’t have a problem with someone running their bmw as cheaply as they can

So, again, why are star-spec tires better and why do they cost more?

Yes, there is a difference in BMW star marked tires. They are optimized to BMWs specific requirements for their application and car.

Here is a video on the Michelin PS4S vs PS4S* on the BMW M4 Comp. For this particular star marked tire, Michelin actually shared on the normally proprietary (and confidential) details.

Thanks Dave. You know he’s going to reply rubbish because that’s the kind of guy he is. Rather get drunk and fight with people on the internet over tires.

My car came with Pirelli.
Is there an analogous "better" tire for when they need replacing?
I replaced the tires on my 440 shortly before I traded it in.
I asked the tire shop to use the exact tire the car came with. I think those were Michelin. I wonder if they were slightly different.
I drive the car gently, so I guess I'm not too worried, but when the time comes, I want to use the exact tire BMW decided was best for my car.
Thanks

My car was optioned with summer non-runflats and Michelin Super Sports were the OEM factory tire. Are your Pirelli's the OEM tire? I would say Pirelli is one of my last choices. Just not a great experience with them in terms of ride and longevity.

Have run Michelin Pilot Sport tyres on the e36 & e92 from the original Pilot Sport to PS4S & a set of Super Sports all in go flat & these ZP’s feel no worse for being run flats, obviously it’s not exactly comparing apples to apples, to do that one would need to try the ZP’s & go flats on the same vehicle back to back so I can’t truthfully say they are as ‘good’ or ‘better’ but I don’t find the ride hard or crashy, not noisy, traction, turn in & grip is what you’d expect, which is excellent. Very happy with them & would go ZP again.

Have also recently used them in wet & cold 3 degrees & they were fine, obviously I was driving to the conditions & not like my hair was on fire & we are apparently due some snow where I am so if it does snow I’ll see how they cope

Now you’re just being an ass.

How about YOU prove they are more expensive? Just keep ignoring the replies that say they aren’t more expensive.

Until you do, you’re just an internet troll.

I just looked at tire rack. Price appears to be the same star vs not Star.

I’m not a big fan of the mystery around a manufacturer specific tire spec but at the same price point I’d likely buy the Star tire if I wanted to get that same tire.

My dealer recently advised that the PS4S are no longer in the BMW program, tirerack doesnt have them either. They still helped out and got a set from a nearby dealer that were MO/mercedes marked. I'm using NOMO's this go around with porsche fronts. Sucks that the PSS5 haven't been released outside of manufacturer inventory yet.

To be honest id buy star ones if I could but I have such limited options with star tires in my configuration which is why I asked to begin with.

That’s my point Joe. Why not, right? It’s his entire “marketing magic more expensive ” rhetoric that is completely unsupported.

I have no idea if the star means they are better for a BMW or not, but I certainly know they aren't worse than non-starmarked, so again, why not?

You don’t have to buy them from the dealer and they aren’t more expensive.

There is adding value, and then there is being a douche just to be a douche.
