They really didn't need my help, but I did my homework to the point that I could have done it myself. I could have actually, but it was work $300 for them to do it to me. It's foggy like two days a year where I'm at and given fog is caused by a wet surface and the air temp, I probably wouldn't be driving the car. I don't take it if the weather isn't ideal. Stays clean.

Hey, sorry if I missed it here but viewing on my phone app is much different than on a computer. Do these LCI retrofits enable rear fog lights as well? Really wish I had that on my pre-LCI 2019 for those days when I need rear fogs in Mass. or when those a*holes everywhere follow too closely.

If you have the wires needed, they will be black and yellow (left) and black and white (right). They are on the inner tail connector. They will on pin 5 for pre LCI lights and moved to pin 1 on LCI. I’d bet the house you have the wire. I’d probably use them more if this car was my daily. I never drive it when the weather is bad or the winter. I knew I had the wire from the LCI install so it was one of those “why not” things in terms of getting the switch and coding it.

My thanks to Joe for all his helpful posts on this subject.
I should have done this a couple years ago! (he told me too...and of course he was right ) I purchased the BMW "official" euro conversion kit. 63135A2AEC0 as I wanted to ensure I had the "BMW" logos on the far left and right lights. Joe's wiring diagram and wire color chart was invaluable. The YouTube video on Euro Tails done by Fullbolton was helpful as well, but he kinda skips through some details. A couple notes about the kit: Depending on who you purchase it from, it does not always come with the wire ties, wire and pins. Not a big deal, you can easily obtain these for about $20. You need two each 61 13 1 383 776 pins...get three or four so you have extras if you mess up the crimping of the wire to them. I have several crimping tools and none fit perfectly as they are not designed for wire smaller than 20 gauge, and I'm using 24 gauge. You need about 14 or 16 wire ties You need about 14 feet of 22 or 24 gauge stranded wire for the jumper wire. I made mine about 6 feet long for each side, then after I routed the wire I shortened it to fit. I would not use anything larger than 22 gauge wire, as it will not fit and get crimped on the pins, as the channel for the wire on the pin is tiny. The cable on the left side of the trunk lid will no reach to the new tail light, as the position of the plug on the new tail light is further way. Not a big deal, just unplug the cable attachment points to the trunk lid and you can reroute the cable so it reaches. Removing some of the retaining pins for all the trim took some effort. Take your time and be methodical. You should invest in a metal trim removal tool and one of those sets of four each plastic trim removal tools...you can get them from Amazon or Harbor Freight Tools. When using the metal tool, make sure to wrap or back it up with a towel so you don't scratch any plastic or paint. I just need to get the coding done now. |
