Yeah I'm not so sure this side marker thing is the defacto indicator that your coding is correct.

My side marker is on after coding and the adaptive headlights are operating exactly as expected. As mentioned, I had Almaretto code my 2018 540. The performance on both my vehicles (M550 and X5) is exactly like my 540 and the videos that demonstrate how it should work. You can visibly watch the tunneling. So, not at all sure about what the side marker indicates. Perhaps that’s just an indicator for the factory to know that the disabling coding is enabled?

I wonder if there's a USA regulation that causes the need the this? I'm not sure why this side marker is indicative of 'properly coded'? It has no relation to the functioning of the anti dazed and VLD. Correct? Isn't this 'just' another light to code on/off depending what you want? I kind of like it: it's like the marker lights on my Raptor, and the two look cool parked next to each other with their side lights on so leaving on for the moment. Side note, if you want to see how dramatic the Euro NCAP effect is on front bumper design for pedestrian impacts, when I stand in front of my my M550, the bumper touches right at/below my knee (all the better for picking me up and rolling me over the bonnet, rather then going under the car: better for survivability apparently)… then I stand in front of my Raptor… and put my elbow on the bonnet…. That would firmly hit my chest first, legs would give and body go under the front of the truck. Not planning on testing this in person don't worry! But it really stood out to me when I had them parked next to each other the other day. |

My assumption is that if you want a US pre LCI to have VLD and AD you code the required modules to EU specifications. EU cars don't have the amber side marker, so the light turns off in US models after coding.
I'm not a coding expert by any means but logically it makes sense. From what people have posted here it is apparent that things changed with the LCI. |

Ok so just another update. It appears that this coding method does not enable the "town light" feature.
Almaretto's method via e-sys had a functional town light at lower speeds which was noticeable as it illuminated a part of the curb or divider as you were driving around town. Also, I don't know if this bimmercode method makes the headlights a bit brighter (maybe it's an EU spec or option?), but my low beams appear to have gotten a tad brighter. High beams are still, well, high beams. Again, this bimmercode method does work, the low beams split, dance, dip, everything it's supposed to do to not blind others. This is just my observation from someone who had Almaretto code my headlights and then I coded them again recently thru this bimmercode method after the dealership updated my software. Same car, 2021 540xi.

Goat Milk -
What makes you say that? It seems to me like mine is doing all of this and as I’ve said before, it appears to act just like it did on my old car after the Almaretto coding. Granted, it could be hard to distinguish between 2 and 3 above. |

One thing for sure is that with Almaretto's coding, I was lighting up the curbs and grass at low speeds. It was very noticeable. I no longer have it with the bimmercode coding.

For pre LCI models. Just did this.
3531 LaMaster2 > c_AFS_ENA > enable is in LaMaster1 at the end of the list Both of these are in LaMaster2. 3532 LaMaster3 > c_HBA_ENA > enable [was already enabled] 3532 LaMaster3 > c_HBA_GFHB_ENA > enable Follow all other steps in OP first post. VLD is subtle. Its based on speed. The high beam is more noticeable because its a quick off on the sides or middle of your car but blue high beam light is still on. Also, I don't have fog lights so the fog light speed might not work? Says only if you turn on fog lights. Last edited by Scotty B; 12-04-2021 at 02:08 AM.. |

Better use E-Sys to code it - way easier

Thank you @Almaretto, I fine with paid solutions. I just purchased bimmer utility following your recommendation. Is there a way that I can send you a PM? I can't seem to find the option to do that.

I used Bimmergeeks Protools and simply removed S5AP (high beam assist) and S8S4 (decoding VLD) from the section that lets you remove VIN stuff, and it seemed to reprogram the light modules.
