And then that poor guy got hundreds of harsh comments on a 28 page thread when he explained what happened to him... finally changed his nickname and left the forum...

If I remember correctly, that thread made national article/blogs, and all of the reciprocating web traffic back to this site actually broke Bimmerpost for a few hours. LOL Hall of Fame moment of sure

You are right.
Poor guy tried to explain he had years of experience on track and performance schools, but on that day made a mistake (due to cold tires and DSC OFF). People blamed him to put other people's life at risk on public road and he did his best to convince them it was a "safe mistake" .... I felt bad for that guy... but everybody makes mistake right?
I think that accident happened for 2 reasons:
1. He under-estimated the car he had taken delivery a week or so.
2. He was a RS5 owner and familiar with that AWD chassis. Then he jumped into a RWD car with a lot more torque and power and less weight
Anyways I think I have jacked this thread more than enough!!!
OP, sorry for that

UPDATE: Inexperienced C7 Corvette Z06 Driver Crashes His Pride And Joy Into A Tree

http://www.carthrottle.com/post/inex...y-into-a-tree/

Quote:
The car had been off the lot for about 24 hours. It’s a Z07 package with the manual 7. The cause of the accident was a misunderstanding about launch control: it was his [the driver’s] first time using it, it controlled the torque completely through first gear at wide open throttle. After shifting to second (expecting the torque management to continue working) it was unrestricted power to the wheels and just came as a surprise, which is why there wasn’t really a reaction to it. The car was in track suspension mode and sport 1 traction control, so active handling would’ve been expected to handle slight yaw from wheel spin, but didn’t. The driver was experienced with high power cars and owns a heads/cam/intake c6 z06 also.
Quote:
The car is completely repairable with no parts on back order. Damages were over 20 thousand dollars though. Air bags did not deploy so all damage was front end cosmetic for most part. The frame did snap cleanly off in the front (which apparently is by design). All the motor and transmission etc was fine. Even the back and sides were miraculously untouched except a small scratch at very front of passenger door. People hoping to buy the competition seats from a wrecked Z are out of luck this time!
