If anyone else ends up taking this on, feel free to reach out and I can provide some tips/info and part #'s. Maybe one day I will get around to doing a full DIY write-up, but I missed out on several of the photos I wanted to get during the process.

Total cost for all of the parts ended up being around $700, including some Ambient Air Cartridges, but not including the Touch Climate Control Panel, which I don't believe is necessary for the Ambient Air or the Ionizer to work as they operate through the Climate Control Menu on the G30.

The short version of the directions is to remove the center console and the dashboard, instructions on which can be found here.. Once you get this done, you can connect and run the wiring for the 2 new modules. You then mount the Ionizer module on top of the IHKA Control Module. Going back to the dashboard which is out of the car, you can now install the Air Freshener in the glove box, and run the tube for it to Center Speaker Support which you will replace. You also have to replace the air ducts, and install the actual Ionizer Emitters in the new air duct. Then, you put everything back together, and connect the new wires when you reconnect everything at the passenger side of the dash, and connect the Ionizer wiring under the passenger side.

The Ionizer does make a difference, but I haven't used the Ambient Air that much yet, as my car is still new enough that I'm still enjoying the new car smell lol. I'll be the first to admit, unless you are really die-hard about having some of those Ambient Air scents, this project falls more into the "prove it can be done/show-off to others" category, versus the "actually needed/used frequently" category of retrofits.

Pictures below, including a couple for anyone who wanted to see what your interior looks like taken apart

Hey I am interested in doing this on my 2017 750i G12. Is there anyway you can help me get the part for my car?

Why not just add ambient air to the VO and code the required modules?

I never done that before and I have a lot of custom code that would have to be redone. I'm afraid if I made backups they would t work when I needed them. If someone has a step by step guild using bimmer utilities I might give it a try if I can't by the way I know how.

Why would you think the backups in BU wouldn't work? If you have that much custom coding you should have cheatsheets created anyhow..

If you don't want to do a VO code, then update your VO with ambient air and do a SVT compare within BimmerUtility. It will tell you what the changes are for each module before committing them.

I already have Ambient Air from factory, and have purchased the AliExpress reset tool ($$$), which works well. I am sharing link to my purchased tool below.

Any tips on what pads work best in replacing the used pads? Also, can anyone recommend any specific fragrance oils to pour on the pads ?

So today i think I did what you said to do I added the fa to the vo and then did that compare thing and it shows me two modules with two code changes. Is that all the codes that are needed for ambient air by doing that? Why can’t I the. Just take those four codes and code them and not change the vo? Is there an easier reason to have the vo be up to date with your retrofits?

When you change the vo does it always rewrite all your modules back to default?

I had the ambient air working then all the sudden after ten minutes it went to empty to no Cartagena like it doesn’t recognize the. And reloading them doesn’t help it guess I’ll look into that tomorrow

Your cartridge might have run down. This is when you can either get a new cartridge or reset the chip (using the tool linked above).

You probably know this already, we are supposed to put the cartridge in the reset tool and press the red button. The green LED blinks a few times and then steadies, which is a signal of reset being complete.

Try this, if you didnt already.

I recently purchased a kit and had a question about the blue terminal at the end of the cable attached to the ambient air module

Does the vehicle already have the proper wiring to just plug and play? Or do I have to tap into the existing wiring?

This is the ONLY active thread talking about this retrofit and i'd like to figure things out before disassembling my dashboard

not plug n play you will have a harness from airfreshner and ionizer. ionizer is power ground and pin 15 of the heating and ac module the airfreshner is same but extrA for light which you get from glovebox switch

Do they both tap into pin 15? Also pin 15 from which of the 2 plugs on the Heating and AC (since I believe there are 2).

Thanks for the help, i can probably make the wiring happen myself if I know the correct pinout.

Same question I had for roxxor and he helped me out. Both pins on 15 it will be empty. With the module still in place on car it is black plug on right.

Hi, i am planning to do this retrofit. I'm wondering if it is possible to do only the airfreshner without the ionizer. And if so is it possible to do this without taking the whole dashboard of?
