I received the same symbol the other day. Like the OP said, every component has it's own symbol so idk what "Service Requirement" means. What's good for me is my warranty is still valid so it's not too big of a deal (except for the fact that I'll be without my car for a few days).
I have ~28k miles on my 330 and the symbol says 1600 miles or 2/2010. |

My "car-on-a-lift" icon is also due. I don't think it's brakes because, as your manual shows, those have their own icons (8 & 9?) WTF are "service requirements"? |

The icon doesn’t mean anything is wrong it’s just letting you know you're coming up on the 60k service interval. Mine has 4500 or so to go. Since the e90 doesn’t necessarily have the inspection I/II like the e46 this is just a way to get you to have the car checked out and make sure everything is still peachy ...and they get to charge you for it. Think of it as more of an inspection/ preventative maintenance light.

My understanding is 30k/60K for service inspections but not necessarily service I/II. On the e90 they got away from all that and track everything on an as needed basis.
And yes the brakes have a totally different icon to indicate replacement/problems |
