C8 is REALLY hard to beat for bang for the buck though, assuming you get a placement, and in your list probably my pick as well

The M2 is the darling of the automotive world in my eyes due to its visceral driving experience and reasonable price, but it comes with its compromises (2 doors, not incredibly lightweight, severely dated interior).

The C8 Corvette is no lightweight. Despite being smaller than the M4 it weights in at 3650 lbs base. Higher performance variants will most certainly be heavier. Really the Cayman is the only true lightweight left.

Base C8 is $58k if we're just sticking with that part of the discussion. But if he's looking to spend and can be patient, I don't think it's unreasonable to be able to save another $30k over 2-4 years for the higher end options.

If OP has been driving BMW, something tells me he will be disappointed with the C8. It's still pretty much a Corvette albeit with the engine in the middle.

Surprisingly, I've never driven a Corvette other than the older models which were nice. Do the newer models not handle as well?

Some reviewers were saying there was understeer, but they were doing stuff to upset the chassis mid-corner that you wouldn't do when actually trying to go fast. GM knows what they are doing with handling. Drivers taking them to the limit have nothing but good stuff to say by and large. Driving my car around a course, I've gotten comments like: "I've never seen a camaro over-steer before, I thought they were just massive under-steer"-referring to older generations, mostly pre C5 Camaro stuff, which was just junk as far as handling.

I think it's a personal choice. Personally, if I was looking for a toy, I'd be cross shopping the supra (if a mt was available) with a cayman. The bad thing about the cayman is that you'd want to get a few options but then say to yourself, no I'll forgo the options and get the gts 4.0 with the flat 6 and in the end you end up wanting a 911.

Regarding the m4.. I think for such a big car I'd rather just go for the m3.

Regarding the Vette, I consider it the budget knockoff for the segment it's trying to compete in. Don't get me wrong, it looks like a great car. But it is what the fiat 124 is to the miata in my opinion.

I was in similar boat and picked up 991.2 911 in addition to my F80 M3.

Supra is crap imo - i test drove one. Light steering even in sport, laggy throttle response, tranny shifts slowly unless your in Sport mode; can’t see out of it, and uncomfortable driving position.

C8 - go check one out up close. Still has the kit car look to me and there is a reason its $60k. Already several recalls on this car.

M4 or M2comp would be my choices.
