In the service menu it says everything is fine. On the MY BMW app it’s showing the correct location, yet my navigation shows me sleeping with the fishes… it has alternated the position once since it bugged. Could it be a software glitch instead of GPS fault? And is updating the map enough to fix it. In regards to what I assume are satellites, it connects from 4-7. Never more, never less. |

Doesn’t look right to me. There are not 255 gps satellites, something like 35 or so ( not sure of exact number but certianly not 255)
You also only show 2d fix which suggests only minimum number seen, you really need a 3d fix for decent accuracy. Is the car parked between tall builds that could obscure satellites? Do you see different info when in a more open space? |

Hmm that is quite strange as I just noticed that I have the same situation.
Getting the 2D fix and my location is off. It does change as I move, but not correctly. Could it be something with their software stopping working for some reason? |

BMW Sat nav not in right location
Hi all. I see several posts to this. My sat Nav has stopped showing me in the right location. Everything works, hidden menu says OK on all the status and my GPS is on which shows me in the correct location. I have even just updated the map to the latest but still no joy. Does anyone have a clue what I can do next please.....

Hello everyone,
I've been having a similar problem with my 2018 BMW 520d Touring (G31) for the past month or so. I did the 30 sec. Media Power button reboot, did the 90 sec. Reboot and it seemed that nothing worked. I was already looking into buying an antenna and trying to find someone to replace it when this morning I noticed that my clock was also showing the wrong time. (2h late) I tried again to reboot the head unit but it did nothing to resolve the issue. I tried to look for a way to change the time zone but found no way. Then I had the idea to make a call trough The emergency call button to test the system, and when I got through to BMW Customer Care Services I informed them it was a Test Call and asked them to locate the vehicle to see if it was showing the correct position on their end and it was. After I ended the call, I disabled and re-enabled the Auto Time and the clock started showing the correct time again. I then opened the Map and "Voila" the GPS was again showing the correct position. Before this, it was showing me a position about 70 km's off and in the hidden "Service Menu" I got a "No GPS Available " message in the GPS Status. I still don't know exactly what was the problem but I think it had something to do with the communications module not being able to provide the correct time to the GPS Receiver. I'm on the Road Map Europe Way 2021-2 map version and I was thinking it was an update issue but no, I never got the update because I was thinking it might be a hardware fault somewhere and that I would be wasting money for nothing with the update. I now need to update the map version. Can anyone point me.to the correct tread on how to do it? Best regards to you all. Hope it helps someone in the same situation. |

For the map you need to go to your connected drive login and download it from there assuming your subscription is still in date ( uk free for first 3 years and then you have to subscribe annually fir around the£120 mark)
Very odd about the time as I would expect the car to get the FROM GPS |

I fixed it by complete accident. In my case, it showed that everything was OK, yet it was showing a wrong location. All I did to fix it, was disconnect the battery. I was changing my springs and headliner, so the car sat unplugged from the battery for a few hours. I disconnected the +/red terminal on the main battery in the boot/trunk. I Don’t think it’s necessary unplugging all 3 batteries, but unsure. Try that as a last resort, if it doesn’t help, then its the antenna which needs replacing, sadly. Kind regards |

In your case, most likely not. In my case and 2 others who PM’ed me, yes. I said that it can be tried as a last resort, if everything else fails. (Soft- and hard resets and so on)

Disconnecting a battery also fixed it for me. This seems to be a software issue (at least in my case) and I assume that upgrading framework will also fix it, which I'll probably do if it comes again. |

I too have the same issue with my GPS stating 255 satellites and 2D fix, albeit my BM is an F36 Gran Coupe 2019.
I see some have fixed by disconnecting the batteries, could you provide any advice on how to do this safely and does the battery/accessories need recoding once reconnected. Mine also has start/stop function. Any help advice appreciated. |

Many Thanks to all for the information posted in this thread.
I have performed a reset by disconnecting the negative battery lead for an hour and the problem with the GPS location has been resolved (much to my relief). |
