Warranty expires in a couple weeks. '18 540 going in Wednesday to check on a clunking sound when the car is cold and hitting minor bumps. Also going to ask them to check:
- flex disc - hoses and belts - look over suspension components, which I think will make sense given the clunking noise correlating with bumps in the road I don't really want to ask them to take things apart looking for a problem. Just one last check of the main components not covered by CPO. Theoretically, all this was checked a year ago by the dealer in Alabama that originally leased it and subsequently certified it and sold it to me. There are no visible signs of any rough wear and tear and no red flags in all the service records I got before purchasing. So, I don't expect much, beyond investigating the noise I'm hearing. I'll report back if anything is discovered or replaced.

I hear there is a new BMW esc coming out or already did, called 100k iPlatinum ESC option.
- 7 years/100k miles - uses only 100% original bmw parts - 24 hour BMW roadside I believe something like this already exists today but this one provides higher mileage. |

First time bmw buyer
2017 540i 46k miles Bought from carmax did not take the maxcare warranty as I wanted to learn how to wrench on these myself. I still have the 90 days warranty and 30 days to return. I first notice coolant was leaking after 2 days of receiving the car. I took it back to carmax told them the problem. They kept it for 6 days, then they gave it back to me saying there was no leak or anything they had pressure test the entire system etc cap pressure was good. I showed the service rep that there was definitely coolant leaking etc told me to just ride it for a little bit and bring it back if I were to get the same problem. They had topped it off over the max line. Eventually I drove it for a few days and always checked my coolant and took pictures. Low and behold coolant is literally leaking visible only under my reservoir and not where the water pump is. I have documented this and left them a voicemail scheduling another appointment. I was contemplating on returning the 540i because of this shit service. Then I gave it another chance and took it to a local bmw specialist and paid for a pre purchase inspection. Now According to them (bmw specialist) 1. "Cooling system does not hold pressure. Multiple cracks found on expansion tank. There could be more than one leak, right now this is the only active leak. Lets pressure test after replacing tank." 2. Breaks 7mm all around (60% life) 3. Differential bushings great 4. Control arm bushing great 5. Tires good (still on stock runflates from 2017) 6.No leaks other than expansion tank detected. 7.axles and suspensions great 8.Turbo oil and coolant lines clean 9. Drive belt is good 1 day Before this scheduled inspection they called me on the phone telling me to take it to a dealership to get a report so they could fix it (lol). So I gave the car and report back to carmax and they gave me a rental. So car is still under warranty for 90days and i can return it around november 1st (about 11 days left out of those 30 days i had only driven for like 6 days lol) So with the only problem being the coolant reservoir I think I might keep it for a while. Looks like only thing I would be doing is brakes and getting new tires soon. Also i did watch a video on changing the coolant expansion tank and realized i literally could have done this in 20minutes myself pay $140ish. Its taking carmax like 6 days +5 currently for them to actually do anything lol.... |

But it sounds like the car is solid. If you think you got a good deal, I'd just have BMW inspect their work after it's reportedly repaired. If you love the car and got a good deal and they say it's all good, I don't see why you wouldn't keep it. Brakes and tires are something I'd expect to do on a 5-6 year old non certified used car from a dedicated used car dealer. Nothing wrong with that, just saying I don't think that's a negative if the deal and everything else are satisfactory to you.

So finally after 87k kms in, got the coolant loss notification on my 2017 540i. Checked it out and as I was expecting, expansion tank was dry. Towed it to the dealer and had the expansion tank and hose underneath the tank changed out of pocket.
Turns out there are five generation of the expansion tank over the 5 years. They had to change the design to fix it. I got the latest one that came out 2 months ago. Common issue for b58 across the board. Mine just lasted enough to pay out of pocket! This marks the 3rd issue on my car. All common issues so far. |

Alright… two months in and I've got my first thing. Some material is separating and peeling inside the passenger side taillight housing. Took it in yesterday, will be replaced under warranty next week.

I'm surprised they covered it seeing as you replaced your emblems. Automatic warranty void.

Dealer emblems...that always pissed me off. I asked them to remove their emblem....and they didn't when I took delivery of the car. So I took hair dryer to it, heated it up, ran some fishing line under it...gone for good. I actually stuck it on one of my tool boxes.

2018 540i (Luxury Line); 41,300 miles
Took it in for a knocking around noise when going over bumps, especially in the morning. Turned out to be loose tension strut bars. Covered under warranty.

Going to take the car in for an inspection before my factory warranty expires (03/23). Here is the list of things I've listed to have the BMW dealer take a look at.
1. Check the engine for leaks (around the valve cover gasket and oil filter housing). 2. Check for coolant leaks. 3. All 4 wheels clear coat peeling 4. Check suspension components (sometimes I hear a "rattle" when going over bumps or creases in the road) 5. Transmission Diagnosis (Not Shifting Properly,Leaks,Other) - Shifts funny when going downhill or making left turns seems like it "jerks" into gear. 6. Check both differential and transfer case for leaks. 7. Ambient lighting seems dim on each door panel. 8. Check and advise Speaker sounds like it is blown on the drivers side when playing music hear kind of a loud "thud". 9. Hear "squeak" from the drives and passenger door when opening. Check and Advise 10. Other Diagnosis Front and rear bumper clear coat is starting to peel. Let me know what else I should add to the list. The service manager said they'll do an inspection since the car is still under warranty for free. Dealers get paid on warranty stuff anyways. On my mom's Mercedes, we got $14k worth of things replaced under the factory warranty.

2020 BMW 540i with 11,247 miles. Persistent error code 80442A which happened 255 times. There is a related document: SIB 63 07 21, just a little bit strange since my G30 production date is later by about 5 months.
Apparently this code is a defective headlight rotary switch. Part was not in stock and has now been ordered. I will return to dealership when the part arrives and the item will be covered under warranty.
