Btw, Scott...you should be good. Ewa couldn't care less about what car model you have. Plus our VINs show us as "5 series", so it should be fine. What's the quote she gave you?
Thanks! It was $2895 for 5 years and 100K miles from the current date and odometer reading. That appears to be w/o EEP, but not sure. Either way, I'm pretty pleased with it.
She's been pretty responsive to me as well.

Yeah, I spoke to her today on the phone for the first time. Until this morning, it was all email. She said a bunch of ppl have been calling her about BMWs lol.

I'm curious why she gives some ppl 100k and other 120k quotes.

Oh. Mine was to 120K miles. Just so happens my car has 20K now, so I meant 100k more miles.

That's pretty similar to my initial quote. My rep provided me with all options. Went with #1 which was a no-brainer given the price differences.

Are all you folks using hfcu in Massachusetts? Does it matter?

I contacted route 66 through their web form and they referred me to provident credit union. Who then told me I need to be financing the car with them.

Route 66 only sells through financial institutions. HFCU seems to the carrier selling it for them in the Northeast.

It is most likely Provident's own policy to not sell it without a refinance or a new/used car loan. It increases the value of the loan which increases interest payments. I am sure the commision isn't the tease here, it's the $3,000 over 60 months. HFCU will sell it to you without a loan if you are a member of the credit union which basically means you do business with them and have an account with $25 in it.

Ask Route 66 for some other financial institutions in your area or at least one that does not require you so come in. HFCU made me come in to sign and pay.

I’m late to the party lol. I’ve had Route 66 in the past and currently purchased a new contract after my CPO ran out last month.

My experience with their claims process in the past (about 3-4 claims): The bmw service advisor called them up with the repairs. You’re responsible to pay dealer the sales tax and any fluids related to the repair. One thing I ran into, and it could be dealer specific so YMMV, the dealer stated the labor hours Route 66 was willing to pay for a job was not consistent with theirs. Example dealer may call for 4hrs, Route 66 may say 2hrs. So they dealer and I negotiated the difference. IMO not a deal breaker to pay extra $100 for a $4k repair. Also one time they did come out for inspection, but they covered the repair.

Overall a pleasant experience with them, so it was a no brainer to get it again.

First time around I emailed Route 66 directly to get a list of CUs that carried their product within NJ. I suggest going this route instead of PenFed since they don’t offer the electronics addendum and cap Easy Street to 75k miles. I then called around and found one where I just had to drop down $20-25 for membership. I then deposit the $3k in the account to purchase the warranty. My 2nd time purchasing, since I was already a member, I just had to get the online quote, deposit the cash and call up the CU rep to process the warranty purchase. I got 74k miles so I got the 4yrs/120k miles warranty since I’ll probably get to 120k within the 4yrs.

Nice feedback, thank you. Seems like another positive experience. Question, were any of your cars tuned while making a claim?

Also in CA, I’m going through the motions with Eva and just appear to have opened an account with Hfcu. Price quoted for 5 and 7 year is pretty much the same as everyone else in the thread.

I tried another MA-based credit union that offers Route 66 that I have family members using, but they only use Route 66 for their insurance product for certai states, and liberty mutual for CA. Provident has been a dead end so far. A Route 66 rep also suggested university credit union. I’m thinking it’s just going to be easier to go with the bank and person that’s worked for everyone else here unless CA poses a roadblock.

No, however I plan to tune this one before summer is over. Shouldn’t be a problem as BMW is no longer responsible and they have no incentive to flag and report car as tuned to Route 66.

Agreed, I am not worried about my dealer telling them, it is more a matter if they send someone out.

I think it depends on the cost of the repair. The claims I’ve had in the past between Route 66 and another extended warranty, they tend to send someone out for high $$ repairs around $4k and up. In my experience they never came out for $1-3k repairs. That doesn’t mean they won’t though.

If you have tune hardware (jb4, dinan, racechip) just remove it before taking car in for any warranty work.

Thanks for the color. I have a Dinan piggyback. I am honestly not too worried. If I had anything that remotely felt like a combustion issue, I would definitely pull it. I haven't removed it when in for factory or CPO warranty dealer repair.

My mindset going into buying warrantees whether it be this one, CPO or a wheel and tire warranty is that I hope I never have to use it. I'd rather have the car be a rock. But this is my first aftermarket purchase like this and I am curious how the process is going to play out with my first claim.

I have the same mindset. Insurance for me is “just in case”. If I don’t end up with a claim I’ll be fine with that.

Gonna pass on this coverage for my 18 540i. The

Although it does cover engine and tranny, the B58 is super solid and the ZF transmission is just as solid. Was hoping they would cover iDrive and not sure if they do. They don't even cover the thermostat, hoses, etc :/

The reviews have been horrible as well

Good luck, self insuring is always the delima. People only post negative reviews on Yelp, especially for extended car warranties. I think you would find it hard to find a positive extended car warranty score on Yelp.

iDrive is covered on mine. I can foot the bill for a thermostat if I had to, but the thermostat in the M550 has a 15 year 120,000 warranty on it. Phew, saves me a hondo. That said, thermostats are like brakes and batteries, maintenance items every car needs at some point. I am happy suspension is covered under route 66. Doesn't make sense, but I will take it.

Thanks Joe! If iDrive is covered then the warranty is worth it.

Thermostat, may just do it when I replace all the hoses to the expansion tanks.

To get coverage you need to ensure you have the EEP (enhanced elec package).
Not all offer it... PenFed does not from what I recall.

OK so I am trying to open a HFCU account to get the warranty from Ewa, but it has specific eligibility criteria for membership, none of which I qualify for. How does a non-MA resident get an account here? How have you guys navigated it?
