i8, b5, l2,.... It's a BMW....
Audi is a "glorified" VW!
LOL I mean chill out. It was a open poll and there are only 2 obvious choices. Not everyone takes their coffee the same way. Do you only drink Starbucks my friend? No, variety is the spice of life. God I'd hate to see what you would have to say in a poll of the new Ford GT or BMW i8.....let me guess Ford lovers go to farmersonly.com? LMFAO

And were not bad tasters but not every damn BMW is a lottery winner. Have you seen the 2Active tourer? Id rather sit in another car and watch that thing creep by. The I8 is not for everyone.

And an R8 a glorified VW come on! You cant be serous? VW funds this project...so what. You are saying it sucks because VW owns Audi? That car is titts! and Im also a die hard BMW fan. Personally I would opt for a 991 carrera S or GTS but thats my cup of coffee. To some that is an glorified beetle

R8 without a doubt

Surprised these two would be compared but without a doubt R8. Wouldn't second guess it for a second.

Cannot appreciate, or simply understand, in the here and now, the R8 is still the vastly superior super car? That's the category. Let's not make this a "oh they just don't get it." Whether you believe the i8 represents a wave of the future or not, they're branding it as a super car, and surely understand in that realm, it's not that super, by comparison, just yet. I can very easily and intelligently say I do love the i8 and what they're trying to do with it. But it's no comparison right now, today, here where the question was asked...
You disagreed with what I said and then repeated what I just said so I'm confused.

Like I said the i8 is not be appreciated for what it is today. This is represented in the overwhelming responses towards the R8. Throughout history the leading edge (In this case a new kind of super car) has always had a small following in the beginning. In the same way the M1 was not appreciated until much later after it was not in production anymore. It's not a knock at anyone as everyone is entitled to their liking, but as we all know history repeats itself and in my opinion this will be the case for the i8.

When the R8 etron comes out this will be a much more relevant comparison but I'll have the R8. It looks a tad boring when you look at it but it's more of a performance car. The i8 has awesome technology and really good performance but it's a filler hybrid performance car. Personally I don't understand what all the hype is with the i8. I'd rather have a Tesla to be honest.

Let's wait until Audi releases actual pricing before making price point comparisons. My assumption would be that the new R8 pricing stays within a couple percent of the current model. By the way, the only i8 currently available within 200 miles of where I live is used with 2500 miles and the dealer is asking $168,000 for it. I can buy a current generation used R8 V10 for $140K all day long.

BTW, the R8 V10 is a carryover engine, no difference from 2015 to 2016 at all. This poll/comparison is i8 vs R8 (mkII) not i8 vs most expensive possible configuration of the R8. One more thing, to me when buying a car what I pay for it is what matters, not MSRP.
LOL... I don't need to provide the link anymore when you are so biased to prove your words
Oh BTW if you are really interested on i8 with MSRP and not those silly numbers, I found some for you at MSRP price... and they are brand new (not used)...
They are a bit far than your 200 miles search.. maybe 250-300 miles

That's ridiculous. For the drivetrain of an i3+116i
It's all flash.. like the latest phone.
Bet the margin on it is crazy compared to the i3.

Indeed.

One is a sportscar, the other one is not.

Even if the i8 had been out when I bought my R8, I would never have considered the BMW. If it had the engine of the current M5 in it, maybe, but even then...

very difficult decision , both are stunning , i8 is more like the car from the future , I think it's just not the right time yet for i8...maybe I'm wrong , I'm all for the change and all that but the R8 and V10 is so hard to ignore...so I'll take the R8 today....but tomorrow could be a different story.

also a lot of people here would choose audi , simply because bmw STILL does NOT have a proper super car. that is a sad story imo.

Although I feel like deletion of the side blades from the new R8 is utter blasphemy, I would take it any day over the i8. However, if you're shopping in this price range, the Huracan and 488 are not far away, and those may be better options.

The R8's design is timeless and elegant. The i8 is a head turner for sure but i can't get over the fact that it looks like its giving birth to a 911 from the rear. Once you notice it thats all you'll see.

R8 for me.

I can appreciate the direction BMW took with the i8 in terms of a new step in performance cars. But I agree, I'd go as far as calling the style hideous. There's just too many design ideas packed onto the same canvas.

Regarding the style of the i8, it's another example of BMW's not being photogenic. I've seen the i8 on display, at BMW Welt, in dealer showrooms as well as on the street here and in Europe and each time I marvel at the cohesive design featuring the layered look. Audi's including the R8 are beginning to look like they've been carved out from a bar of soap with a dull knife. Put me down, no color in particular, for the i8,
