I like that trade, except that I will need another 20-40 other brothers of the phin to help me, where as he can fly that Phantom all by himself, lol.

Come on man... In the Hunt for Red October, Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin were able to operate a sub with only 10-12 people. Shouldn't be that hard to find 10 friends as long as you are offering free beer!

Realistically, I think at a minimum, you would need: -3 man crew to operate the external tug boat -2 man crew to heave lines on the pier -4 man crew to collect and stow lines topside -2 man crew in to man the bridge during maneuvering -1 helmsman -1 planes man -1 man to operate the BCP -1 OOD who can probably double as the DO -1 man to operate the charts and plots and act as the NAV -3 man crew to operate Sonar -1 man to operate the radio room -2 man crew to man the galley and mess decks -3 man crew to operate the O2G, Scrubbers, and other AMR items -2 man crew in the ELT labs -2 man crew in the ER -1 man minimum to oversee all reactor operations -1 man minimum to oversee all ops and act as Captain Multiply this by two, at a minimum for P&S watch bill, otherwise everyone is working 24 hours a day. So you could probably do it with 45 sailors or so, plus another half dozen that would only be needed during the maneuvering watch coming in and out of port. This doesn't count anyone that would be needed to fix stuff at see or operate any offensive or defensive weapons systems. But yeah, could probably actually operate one with less than 50. We had a crew of around 120 and that felt skeleton thin most times, though.

Man these guys love doing this shit though. My ex-brother-in-law was a lineman here. He used to climb the towers in areas where they couldn't get a helicopter in for him to hang off of to test and repair lines. He bought a small mansion on farm and retired at 38.

I’m posting it here as an echo of the comments about the work these guys do, the dangers involved, and as a reminder to be patient when there is an outage so they can do their work safely. No one wants to get service restored faster than a lineman; we have to make them slow down and think safety first. |

Go get em boys. When stopping for a bus is a waste of time, because everyone does it.
