2017 540i demo car - worth it?

This is only the second time I'm buying a bimmer, last time was 4 years ago and didn't negotiate much. I would love to hear from everyone here and appreciate any advice. I would like to know if the price can be talked down even more.

I saw a deal of 2017 540i dealer demo car, $69k MSRP, with ~3000mi on it. It'll be sold as a new car, with discount and tax, $67k walk out.

Included options on the car: Alpine white, black dakota, M sport package, premium package, cold weather package, sport seat, parking assist, HK sound system, m sport brake, 20-in wheel, soft close door, Apple carplay. Pretty loaded if you ask me. Not much safety features like blind spot monitor and lane keep assist bother me a little.

As you may know, the online configurator has changed from 17 to 18 model year, so I now can't get a idea if this deal is good or not. Plus the demo car factor that makes things complicated (for me).

Any suggestion if I should keep talking down the price or go for it even if the dealer stand still?

Another question: does all 2017 have no power trunk lid?

Thanks for any input!!

Doesn't seem like a great deal..just ok. I assume it's somewhere around $61K without tax and fees which is roughly a 11% discount off MSRP. You can easily get that discount off a brand new 2018 model and not have to settle for a used 2017.

I believe power tailgate comes with premium package but could be mistaken

Considering how I test drive cars at dealerships, I would never ever buy a demo car unless they are giving me at least 20% off the MSRP, and I don't plan on driving it beyond warranty period.

That said, your deal seems to be mediocre.

Thanks for the suggestion! They said the demo car is currently driven by a salesman, and with "great care". No way to know the truth.

But if the same discount is possible for a 2018, then really no need to go for it.

Also, at least in North Texas, I found a lot of 2018 with no lighting package. That wasn't the case for 2017 when it was just released. Does anyone see the same?

So you would be buying a year old used car with 3,000 miles for a discount of $2K from MSRP? That does not sound like much of a bargain to me.

i think he said that the $2K was including tax and fees rolled in...meaning he probably got the car for $60K or so, or 8% off MSRP

Still not a large discount.

I bought my M235i as a Demo Car. Sticker was $51k...walked out at $42.5k. Leased it actually...

I would have expected a much larger reduction...but the cars are pretty rare at dealerships so maybe they aren't flexing...

Stay away from demos or loaners. I bought my 550i which was driven by the GM and all 4 wheels were bent. It took me a month to realize the problem.

Ouch...

Usually Demo or Loaners are usually in good standing. Most of them are just show cars...sorry to hear about your misfortune.

We can't evaluate your offer without knowing the costs built into the walkout. Sales tax, license tax, etc.

Another downside to loaners/demos with some miles on them is that they don't qualify for certain incentives or BMWCCA rebate. The residual is usually lower than a new undriven car.

As long as it is sold/leased as a CPO the BMWCCA rebate is $250

For a demo with 3000 miles, I would think a price 63k would be more reasonable

Including incentives and discounts mine was $10K below msrp (before tax and fees). And mine was a custom ordered, new 18 530e. And I didn't even bargain very hard.

So I don't think yours is a very good deal for what is a used car.
