I only have 2 weeks and 167 miles on my car, but I drive in comfort. There's no need to be in anything else driving through a small town where the highest speed limit from my home to work is 45 mph.

Yeah but you could go from 0-45 a lot quicker in other modes😜

OK, so did some more testing this morning. Sounds like your on point. In the Sport Individual menu I noticed changing the Engine from Comfort to Sport opens the exhaust, and changing the Transmission from Comfort to Sport gives the pops and crackles. Changing the Transmission to Sport+ further enhances the pops and crackles.

Awesome! will give it a try the next time I take the car out. so far I have heard the low burbles in sport and sport+ when the rpm goes down, but did not get any pops and bangs in upshifts. I guess I have to move the gear shift to the left to hear it.

Coded it back to start in comfort. After 5 days or so of Adaptive I found that the feel of the uneven pavement in my area was too harsh in Adaptive. The roads are so uneven in my area that I would have thought the mode would feel it and soften. Not the case. Comfort is just so much softer and luxurious which is what I want for driving around town.

Even in the LCI, you're not going to get loud bangs and pops on going from 2nd to 3rd gear you might want to temper your expectations, although it does give off spirited sounds. This isn't a 911 GT3.

haha doesn't need to be a 911 gt3 to make pops and bangs. its fully possible with the M550i if BMW wanted it to. just need 2 less resonators from factory like the 850 .

Yeah, but that is what he is saying, BMW didn't intend to have the M550 sound like a gun fight stock, that's why they put four resonators instead of two. Which is why people remove them so it doesn't sound like stock.

That M850 in the video does not sound like a 911 GT3! (I know you weren't saying that, lol) I personally found it to sound slightly more aggressive than the M550. If you could cut the top off a stock M550 and run a video like that one, it would sound similar.

If you listen to the whole video, there's a part where that guy keeps on revving the 850 and it doesn't even pop. Mine will let out an occasional loud pop like that 850, but definitely not consistent. My exhaust is more like the prize in a box of cracker jacks. You never know what you're going to get.

So the bang should come from building up and upshifting when you are at a high rpm while driving, so I think it makes sense to me. Check out the c43 video below. It's not mine, but my c43 did the same.

Upshifting didn't make any noise until around 3500rpm and above and the higher the rpm the louder the bang. Also, by manually upshifting I was able to make the noise when I wanted it to. i.e under an overpass etc lol.

Same thing on the flip side, the crackles came on if your rpm was dropping below around 3500, once again was able to control this by manually downshifting.

it was fun because like you mentioned it wasn't random and you knew exactly when it would react at which rpm and if you drove around town normally you wouldn't really hear anything because its normally below 3500 rpm, plus it had an exhaust button on/off with the performance exhaust option.

So far the burbles on the M550 has been more deeper for me, (not louder but deeper) and still love it!

I would say I am more like 65/35 Comfort/Sport+. I use Sport+ the most getting on and off the highway and also on the highway when I need to pass, cut etc. Cruising at 80-90mph I tend to kick it back down to comfort to utilize that 8th gear.

All of us conservatives guys really need to get a tri-state New England meet up organizing in West CT or something. There's a lot of us from these areas on this board who appreciate the same things!

I haven't had that experience in my G30 in any mode. But then again I don't have the M550

My sister got the delta 88 when she got her license. It was a rust bucket by then. The frame snapped going over a pothole!

My aunt had one. That thing was a 4 door one tire fire machine. It had a 350 4 barrel in it....and I remember visiting her in Florida in the 80's when I was in college. She let me have that thing for a week. I brought it back with the passenger rear tire looking like a bologna skin...the steel belt was showing. I drove it into a ditch in a drunken stupor...had to call a tow truck to pull it out. Poor woman never knew a thing.
