Does M Sport Change X Drive?
I've searched a lot so if this is covered, please point me in the right direction.
I have a 2019 540i X Drive "Sport Line" as in non M Sport. It came with 18" wheels and square 245 tires. I've read that something in X Drive is tuned or calibrated differently on different models (M5 vs 530i for example). I want to run 759i wheels with staggered tires on my car. Since all sport-lines seem to come with square setups, at least from what I've seen, I'm wondering if anyone knows if the x drive is any different. I'm aware of the 1% rule for xdrive. I have a couple questions: 1: Can I run staggered wheels so long as the rolling diameter is within 1%? 2: Stock tires are 245/35/20 and 275/30/20 which is a 1.1% difference. If I size up and go 245/40 and 275/35, the difference is down to .5% but the overall diameter is different from factory spec. Which one is better for me? I've seen plenty of x drive cars running staggered setups but they all seem to be M Sport models. My real question is whether or not the x drive is calibrated differently if the car comes from the factory with staggered wheels. If anyone has a non m sport x drive car and has changed out the wheels for a staggered setup, please tell me what you're running and how it's working for you. Thank you! |

You can select the rear tire size in iDrive, either 275 or 245 to identify staggered vs squared setup. If you do increase the side wall by %5( FYI; That's 7 series size and lots of forum members are running it with no issues), you will have a better ride quality specially on 20s but you will increase your ride height by 0.5" I believe. Speedometer will be a bit off due to the increased diameter by 1-2 kph. I myself will be either running 7 Series or M5 sizes in the near future which both are larger diameters. With 759i, 245 front and 275 rear are your max width. If you do decide to go after market wheels, you can get wider rims and possibly do 255/35r20 fronts and 295/30r20 rears ( exactly 27" front and rear). Which has both wider and nicer look along with slightly increased side wall for better comfort. |

Thank you for the info, this is really helpful. I was actually going through the idrive menus earlier today and came across the tire selector. My car has options for 17" (245), 18" (245), 19" (245), and 19" (275). No 20" option. Obviously the 275 is the one to pick for a staggered setup but should I be concerned that I don't have a 20" choice?
I actually kinda like that the larger aspect ratio raises the ride height. I plan to lower it, more to clean up fender gap than really drop the ride height. Having that extra .5" will protect me from (some) parking space curb stones and make it easier for older relatives to get in and out of the car. |

I believe since iDrive ties to your VIN, it doesn't show any 20" options cause it wasn't available. Mine doesn't show 17" and 18" cause it wasn't available for mine. Not sure how it'll work out if you lower since 7series tire sizes fill up the fender gap more specially with m sport suspension. I believe yours should be higher than m sport ones. Here is a good read with 7 series rims and tires: 648M 7-series wheels on a G30 https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1486749 There are plenty more in this forum if you search. Might find someone who did lower as well. If I get a set of 7 series rims for my car I would personally do 255/295 for a better stance. |

You're right, there is great info in that thread. More sold on upsizing the tires and running the 7 series spec now. May not even need to lower it.
Regarding the idrive settings, do you know what it affects? What changes on the car when you go from square to staggered or 19" to 20"? I wonder if it's something that can be coded (and if I'd even need to if so). |

The transfercase in 5 and 7 series are the exact same part number too. So it's capable. Even the spare tire which is 26.5" is listed as the option for 5 and 7 series along with m5 so my guess is this time around more than 1% difference is acceptable. |
