Not to take away from CTS as it looks like they have an amazing product. But I have a 2018 M550. Anyone purchase the Arm Motorsports intake set up with the optional front facing upgrade add on? If so, do you like it? How well does it work with the Active Grill Shutters? I wanna get an intake but unsure about the available selections and which works/sounds best. The only ones I've found that seem decent is the N63 Intake and Arm Motorsports set up.

Still wondering if anyone has done a dyno? Also does the OEM cold air intake still exist feeding it from underneath? One more question is in the OEM air box there is a spring loaded small box that is covered with an extra fitment on the OEM filter. What is it and is it now removed with this setup?

The black air duct that is flush with the frame toward the front end is the only remaining portion of the OEM intake with this setup.

The entire filter box is removed, including the air and charcoal filters. This filter box normally would slide over the black air duct piece I mentioned above, and would seal the air stream separate from the engine compartment air.

Nobody I believe has shown a dyno with this setup on an M550i on the forums. The overall consensus would be this modification is for sound primarily, with a slight possibility of performance improvement, but also a possibility for performance hindrance due to hot air recirculating.

I personally bought this and installed it, and while I liked the whoosh noises etc., I did not care for the wastegate noise and stuttering sound that would follow under WOT. See this post for details on that https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=30273715

I reverted to the OEM box with BMC filters and ripped out all the foam inside the box to help increase sound output. It sounds much better than OEM, but it isn’t anywhere near as impactful as this CTS intake.

If you just want sound I would go for it. If you want performance, I think you should consider front mount intakes behind the grille (much more costly and difficult install) or the BMC route. Eventuri is also a nice option as it utilizes the OEM duct connection and blocks the engine bay air from really being recirculated. But then again, it’s 6 times as expensive as the CTS.

I don’t understand why CTS wouldn’t manufacture and include heat shields.
It’s hard to say they aren’t necessary when all premium systems have some type of shield or box.
Anyone know of an after market/ add on that works?

There is a market for customers who don't care about heat shields and would instead save money—proven by how popular the CTS intake is.

Im not aware of a heat shield that works with CTS, but if that's what you are looking for, i recommend you check out the MAD or MST intakes with heatshield

Oh I am know there is. I bought it from you guys, not knocking xPH but am knocking CTS. They sell add on heat shields for other models, makes no sense to not make it available as an additional purchase.
