Help needed: Start/Stop button replacement, 2011 535i
I just recently purchased a 535 and am just now embarking on learning about the BMW world (previously lived in the VW and later Corvette worlds).
One of my first changes is to replace the chipped Start/Stop button, however, I can't find a good tutorial on how to do it, and nothing specific to my model/year. From what I've found, it looks like I need to remove the entire (center wood trim) dash piece, and undo the clips from the back. Unfortunately nothing I've seen so far shows exactly how the dash piece is attached, or what's connected behind it, and I'm a bit hesitant to just 'rip it off' for fear of it not going back on (and turning a $15 fix into $100 fix). Does anyone have some tips, or a link to a good tutorial on how to do this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

if you are just talking about replacing the plastic Start/Stop button, this might help...https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1583984
However... I'm not sure how much different earlier model years might be. |

Thanks HomeIn2
I've actually seen the thread (that's what made me realize I could replace it). The Red button in the pictures appears to just pull straight out, but for the older models (and mine particularly) shown as the Blue button, there are tabs around the edge of the button that clip onto the assembly under the silver ring. So pulling it straight out doesn't look like an option, unless I'm missing something (and I'd prefer to be missing something ). |
