More B58/S58 engine choices
I love my 540i xDrive but wish in some future iteration of the 5 series that they offered the higher-level B58 engines as an option. The B58B30O1 at 382 HP, or heck, I'd take the S58B30T0 they put in the M3 too.
Why do they need to go to the N63 V8 to get more power? The M440i, for instance, has the more powerful B58 in it AND weighs more than a 540i. I just don't like the increased front weight that the N63 adds, plus it's just not as smooth a power plant. Is it just a branding thing, that when you're getting up into the serious power for a 5 series, people expect a V8? |

This will be the new lineup for the 2024 5 series with the new b58 engines.. 540i (B58M2, 370hp), 530e (B48M2+EM), 550ex (B58U2+EM, 480hp), M560e (B58M2+EM, 565hp)
Guess BMW heard your wishes lol. I agree the extra 300lbs +/- vs the 540 is definitely noticeable. Im hoping the next m560 will be faster, lighter and more fuel efficient. |

I am assuming there will be a M lite version one way or another. And since all the newest M Lites are labeled as M60 instead of the M50 (for the x7 and 7 series), pretty sure the 5 series will get the M560. Guess only time will tell!

There wont be one at the initial launch of the g60, but there is no way there wont be a M lite version of the 5 series. Unless he states he is the product manger of the 5 series for the global market (or family member, close friend), I won't take his word for it. . and if he is actually the product mgr, he would know better not to reveal these things on the internet lol
Until 2030 or whenever the day is when there can be nothing but ev vehicles by German law, long live the ICE (ish) 5 series! |

I am pretty confident the M lite version of the G60 will be released in year two of production in the US. Just like the G30 which was born in 2017 with the 540 or 530, with the M550 (and M5) to follow in 2018.

There wont be. Which is what i've been trying to focus on. All of us WANT the M560e, but for now its just a pipe dream.

Frankly, I just want the damn thing to look good. I'm pretty confident in BMW delivering power, one way or another.

But posting: " This will be the new lineup for the 2024 5 series " with a M560e included, without ANY proof is just clickbait to me. In my World, I rely on facts and proof not speculation. I guess its my .02 in this so-called reality.

Why aren't they putting the B58B30O1 at 382 HP in it instead of something that just makes 370 HP? It's just weird that you can get the more powerful engine, but have to downgrade to a 3 or 4 series to do so.
I do like this option, though: 550ex (B58U2+EM, 480hp) I think that might satisfy my desire for more power, but without the added weight of the V8. |

If you are inclined to have some tuning done on your B58, there is a series of videos on Youtube about a shop building up a B58 (from the current Toyota Supra) to around 1,000 HP. That would be a little much for me, but as the late Mickey Thompson once said, "Too much horsepower is ALMOST enough".
Edit: Here's a video of the dyno testing. Clearly a bit of trial and error involved but still impressive. --Bob

Just speculation, but numbers are similar enough. Regarding your HP question, depending on the country, the engine output is slightly tweaked. So who knows, maybe for the US market we might end up with the 382 vs the stated 370. |

Tbh folks the 550ex with 480bhp might be enough - and with all that electric motor torque for day to day driving it’ll probably be pretty nifty. Not sure on lighter though with the battery. I just pray the B&W sound system is allowed as an option - I cannot go back from my LCI M550 - I love that sound system. And please allow a full leather dash!
