I can now officially say I'm the proud owner of a 540! However, it was a truly horrendous experience at the dealership today. I don't even have it in me to type it all out right now but I was in utter shock the way I was treated. In a nutshell, the dealer mis-represented the length of factory warranty left and dates of CPO warranty when I made the deal last week. Today, they tried to play dumb and told me nothing they could do. The manager also started an argument with me in the middle of the showroom and then told me another manager told him I came in bad mouthing everyone in the place (which in all honesty was a 100% lie... and also very irrelevant?). I was shocked at how unprofessional the finance manager was, how petty the 'used car manager' was and how quick he was to put words in my mouth and get very heated with me in front of a whole dealership. Long story short, they agreed to extend the warranty periods (still messed it up multiple times) but I was able to leave with the deal they had promised me.

It really wasn't anything special... just a discrepancy on how many months were left in the factory warranty and then the CPO beginning AFTER that warranty finished (seems pretty logical right?). It really ruined my whole experience after they told me I was a bad person and I was causing all this trouble.... even though I was remaining as calm as possible and just asking them to honor the warranty dates we agreed on (which again were just the normal BMW program... nothing special or extra I was asking for). My saleswoman apologized profusely and said it was absurd how I was treated and she was so caught off guard that the manager started arguing with me. Ugh - super unprofessional and honestly just bad, shady business.

With that said - the car is beautiful and I owe you guys some pics. However, there's 1-2 very small spots of something sticky on the aluminum trim. I want to use a soft cloth or probably q-tip to clean it off. Would you guys recommend a tiny bit of soapy water or rubbing alcohol? Trying to be extra careful.

Jesus that's too much drama and kudos to you for still getting the car after all this. Don't use rubbing alcohol as it might leave a haze use soap with water. Welcome to the club.

Before I went to the dealer I negotiated everything in texts. When we were paying for the car I notice the price was almost $100 more than we negotiated. They started to balk until I showed them the text with the negotiated price. I was quite happy I had the text thread!

That's too bad it worked out like that. Hopefully you have another dealer in your area for warranty work. At the end of the day, you got the deal you wanted so now you can just enjoy the new ride! Congrats.

Congratulations and sorry for the bad experience, I'm sure it was a major crash from being on a high to take delivery to a low, but the high will return when you drive it.

Ditch that dealership for service or anything else. At the end of the day, the people that work in sales, especially the "Manager" are all from the used car salesman mold for the most part. Even though they are selling BMW's, you can't put lipstick on a pig. My salesman at the dealer is incredible, honest and easy to deal with. Then when we get stuck on something and the "Manager" gets involved, it's like Randy Quaid just walked out of a trailer.

Have to know more about the "sticky stuff", but sounds like a job for goo gone.

I'm still just in disbelief. I've never ever been treated like that, especially when I'm buying an a most 50k item. I don't have a yelp account, I don't tip less than 20% ever, I've never complained about service in my life… but this experience has me shook haha. I need to just get over it, but I'm like holy crap did that really happen?

Part of me is like this is crazy, I want to give poor reviews on the satisfaction survey I'm sure I will be receiving soon. I'm just a bit concerned then that they would treat my car poorly if I brought it back for service. (I don't want to go back there for anything but they way they added a few months of factory and CPO warranty to correct their mistake is that their dealer is the one covering that time frame). So I'm undecided. I definitely will not give the 5 star review they still had the audacity to ask me to leave… I would opt to just not complete it at all. We'll see. Man that was a very unexpected day. To top it off (no pun intended), they only put a half tank of gas in the car I purchased. Never seen that either, what a joke. I could care less though I'd rather purchase my own fuel than spend 1 more second in that dealer.

(Rant over!)

Regarding Goo Gone - that's a great recommendation although I'm hesitant to use that on the aluminum trim. In the past goo gone seemed a bit harsh? (Worked like a charm though..).

I was too tired last night but I'll start with a dab of soapy water today and see how it goes

Household mild adhesive/sticker Goo Gone remover. The orange stuff. You will be fine, it is not aluminum, it is plastic "chrome".

You should absolutely hammer them on the survey. This is how they are measured by corporate and tied to quarterly bonuses. Don't feel you are held hostage to them. Bring it to another dealership for service. It sounds like those two months of warranty are an off-book "don't worry about it, we got you". If so, good luck with that in a few years.

The service department is completely different than sales. They don't talk to each other and sabotage service. Dealers make most of their money off warranty work. The service department also has a survey that is sent out that is tied to bonuses and they are super aware to strive or all 5's.

Now, cool-off and enjoy your car and when the survey comes, name names and fire away.

PICS!!!

These pics were super super quick. I will have to get better ones (as if I know how to take good pics haha)... but i'm sure I can do better than this. At least outside in a nicer setting. Anyway - I'm super excited even to look at these and share.

VERY NICE! There is so much you can do with white. I am known to be a bad influence around here, so I will refrain from making suggestions

Thanks Joe!! I love hearing others' ideas... but admittedly I'm not big into 'mods.' I like to do a few smaller things that have (to me) larger impacts.. without really changing the car too too much. It's just how I am I guess dating back to my b5 and b8 Audis... and then on my previous Lexus I didn't really do much at all.

This 540 is beggggging for a rear lip. Just trying to figure out what the other options besides OEM are. I need to research pics on this forum. Trying to decide if I prefer the lip to sit on top of the trunk lid or more on the edge where it starts sloping down (i think i've seen both).

Other than that, i'd like to think of a few other minor things. Tint is definitely an option. At the moment I don't know what else. I used to always look into lighting or sound system upgrades but I'm not going to touch the speakers on this car and I love the exterior and interior lights as is.

If i was going for a meaner look, i'd look into getting the 540 and x-drive badges done matte black... but not sure about that just yet. I'd prefer to debadge actually but we'll see.

Do the painted front reflectors from IND. Very subtle but makes a huge difference.

I also think goo gone would be fine. I'm just always aware to immediately go back with soap and water after the goo gone has done it's thing.

I wasn't into mods either, lol! Lot's of information on this board for everything you mentioned. Lots of pictures and lots of great members here to share resources and experiences.

I have never owned a white car, but I lurk and admire other folks white G30's. I love a black contrast on white. Here are some thoughts:

- Black spoiler. Plenty of good aftermarket ones shipped black out there that look exactly like OEM. It you want something more aggressive, that would be the M5 CS or Pro spoiler. Also, plenty of alternatives to BMW prices.

I would also wrap the roof in black vinyl if you do the spoiler in black and then you may as well swap in a black grill if it doesn't have one already.

From there, it gets more expensive. Black wheels look great on Alpine White. Live with it and scour this forum before you do anything.

Same, and then I coat the area with something like C2V3. Stuff like goo gone and bug and tar remover take off the coating, be it ceramic or wax.

I think I have some goo gone in the house. I will try tonight after work. May try a tiny bit of soapy water first just to see if I can avoid anything harsher.

What's C2V3? Some sort of wax or finishing polish? (is it only for interior pieces?)

As for mods.. i know, i know. Lol I was a long time lurker on e46fanatics back in the day (never owned one but loved the e46 m3, still my dream car)... i was also frequently on Audizine. The mod bug always bites!!

While I agree the black/white works well and this car already has black accents... from here on out I may want to stick with more white. So leaning toward white spoiler. The roof would definitely be really cool to get wrapped but again... might just be a little more aggressive of a look than i'm going for. (but at the same time idk i do love how sleek a black roof looks). I'm afraid that once I do 1 thing, it will just make sense to do the next, and the next because it would flow into more of a complete theme

In my head right now i'd like to do a white rear lip (subtle option if possible), painted reflectors sound great, and then a subtle 35-40% tint.

Definitely live with it and observe. I will be curious in 6-9 months the direction you are heading in. You definitely can't wrong with your approach or even doing nothing except for a spoiler. It definitely needs one. My Carbon Black stock spoiler is yours if you want it. Just pay the shipping, but do some homework. You will have to get it sanded and painted, so factor that in.

Just wait until you start observing LCI taillights. I am going to stop being a bad influence! Tasteful modding is addictive.

Thanks Joe - I was in a rush and realized i could have just searched after the fact. Appreciate you linking!

I do want to report... I removed the 'sticky gunk'!!! The spots were really small but holy crap i am SO happy right now. All it took was a tiny dab of soapy water and a microfiber cloth and the stuff came right off. Didn't have to use a finger nail or anything. Makes the dealers non-sense about it 'being detailed twice, not missing a single spot for you!' even more absurd because anyone with a set of eyes would have been like hmm maybe we should wipe this?.... anyway i could care less I got it off and it's perfect now.

I also removed a white spot from the very top of the steering wheel that I didn't see until driving home yesterday. that took a few more seconds but again just a MF cloth with a tiny dab of water and some gentle rubbing. this is amazing

Funny, I had a couple white spots on the steering wheel, too. Didn't come off the first few times I tried. Then I used actually leather cleaner and it came right off. I was pumped. It's the little things!

Any thoughts on this product?

Turtle Wax Ceramic Hybrid Solutions? I haven't used turtle wax products much in my experience but my dad is a fanatic about keeping his car clean and recently raves about this stuff. Curious if anyone here has tried it or if there are alternatives you may like better. (I still need to research the C2V3 more but that may be similar in concept)
