Purchased as CPO 12/2021 with 30k on the clock. No issues reflected in service history, at time of purchase.

Since I've had it (8k miles so far):

1 - steering column sticking: tried to fix with lubrication, hopefully will replace the column since that didn't work

2 - rear window shade sticking - replaced the switch under warranty

3 - ambient light under dash failed - replaced under warranty

4 - A/C started hissing unusually - replaced evaporator under warranty

1 is a known model issue. 2 & 3 are annoying but don't seem super unusual four years into existence, and warranty handled. 4 feels a little early. But it's an AL car that's now in West TN, so the A/C gets worked hard. Would have been way more annoying without warranty.
Just went and looked at the service history I was given when I made the purchase and I found this one that I missed:

12/4/19 at 14,262 miles "Bottom air flap/cooling flap (mechanics) Switches incorrectly/does not switch"

Defect Code: 5171348300

Would this have been the active shutters in the grill that everyone talks about?
Yep, that is the bottom active shutters, not the one behind the Kidney grill. I have all the history on my car and I literally can't believe neither active grill has failed.
Well, at least one has already been fixed, right? One less thing.
I think the top is far less common to fail.

past ride - 2018 540xi 20k miles (as of Dec 2020):
  • Leaking coolant - permanently fixed on first attempt.
  • Active grille wouldn't close - permanently fixed on first attempt.
  • "Passenger Restraint system malfunction", fixed by replacing faulty passenger seat mat.

present ride - 2021 540xi 21k miles:
  • squeaky sunroof - picked up from service, so far so good.

I was getting an oil change at the dealership and they notified me that there are cracks in the guibo at rear axle. Turns out my CPO warranty doesn't cover this and they tried to charge me $1,300 to replace it. i just got a quote at a local shop for $530. The list keeps on growing!

Wow, I am really surprised your CPO doesn't cover it. I think I would ask another dealer.

For 1300 bucks, were they replacing your carrier bearing too? Our cars have a two piece driveshaft. The Carrier bearing is in the middle. It's a very straightforward job. You drop the exhaust, heat shield and then various bolts that connect the driveshaft to the rearend. Depending on the mileage, it may be a good idea to do that bearing while they're there. When that goes, you're gonna get a big clunking sound when you start from a stop.

Without more details on exactly the part. It may be excluded. The CPO has some pretty extensive exclusions.

Notice this while cleaning my car the other day. Not sure if the wheels have been refinished or?? Kinda looks like it because the silver is interfering with the grey. These are diamond-cut wheels from the factory. There should be no overlapping of colors.

I contacted my selling dealer and the sales rep that sold me the vehicle tried telling me they couldn't do anything since I've had the car for 5 months. I had it for 5 months and drove 2k miles. Give me a damn break. She was going to talk to the used car manager about this. Still waiting to hear back. Been 2 days... I'll give him a call myself tomorrow if I don't hear back today.

This is stupid. I didn't pay $8k for the car. The old E90 I had, the wheels were like new except for some cub rash from the previous owner. No peeling or nothing. And that car was 13 years old with 78k miles. This car is 3 years old with 31k miles. I know once it starts to snow, these two wheels are gonna be fu*cked.

As a lot of forum members know, I baby my cars. Hell, I don't let anyone sit it in my car

Looks like that to me also. Pretty shitty job imo. Hell, I work at a ford dealership and the wheel guy we use does a better job. I would expect a luxury car dealership to have the same or better results if they're going to CPO a car. I don't want to spend $500~ after winter because the wheels starting to peel since the dealership couldn't do them correctly.

Nope. It's probably the same wheel guy at the Ford Dealership that makes the round to the BMW dealer. As I've said before, dealers break all the rules when it comes to cosmetic preps for a sale. Lease returns get a quick in parking lot spray of the bumpers and the wheels get a quick spackle and spray. There no customer on the other end to scrutinize and there is certainly no one from the dealer looking closely.

No just the guibo. When confronted the PA about this, he said it was going to take 5 hours in labor to take down the differential (?), etc. i just didn't say much from that point on. I thought all you had to do was to loosen the drive shaft. This dealership is only as good as oil change.

Wow, that is crazy for a $100 part and an hour of labor. It's exclusions like this from CPO that makes me want to go aftermarket when my CPO ends instead of buying two more years of CPO.

They have to drop the exhaust and then the rest is what you describe.

On a previous car I paid around $900 to have a ~$40 part replaced. Apparently the rear subframe had to be dropped to replace the pinion bearing. That was at an indy.

2019 G30 540i. It has renewed my understanding of BMW means Bring My Wallet

1. 7100mi got low coolant warning. Could not find a leak. Three more times to dealer to find a leak as reservoir was still needing service. Still found no leaks. So I bought some coolant and distilled water and checked the reservoir level myself every month. In 71,000mi I have put 3 1/2 quarts of fluid in. Not to mention the coolant servicing that was done when I had various 5,000 mi oil and filter changes.
2. 22012 mi lower radiator flaps stuck needed to be replaced
3. 20432 mi Upper radiator flaps stuck needed to be replaced By the way there is a 150,000mi 10 year warrantee on the flaps now,
4. 22850 mi Tach and speedometer display shifted to the left and the module had to be replaced and reprogrammed. Lucky I had heads up display.
5. 64027 mi front brake pads and rotors replaced
6. 66415 mi Engine Mounts needed to be replaced
7. 69850 mi Coolant Reservoir leaking and replaced.
8. 71383mi In the shop now for Oil filter mount (Plastic) cracked coolant leaking again and since both Coolant and oil are together they need to purge the coolant and change the oil and filter. So they are gonna have the car for a week. I had my first oil change at the dealer at 4977mi and the first low coolant warning was 7,049mi. at I wonder if they cracked the housing then and I have just been keeping it full.
Looking at some other car this is going to get expensive and it is all because of the PLASTIC under your hood. Good luck fellas.....

By the way drove a 2023 M340i today might be time for a change. Wow what a ride. Of course the da?m plastic would still be there and waiting. I think I am gonna just save money and trade before the warrantee goes out from now on. Don't know why BMW builds a perfect engine but puts sh*tty plastic parts on the coolant system and oil system.

Goddamn, engine mounts at 66k??

1. 7100mi got low coolant warning.

I thought the same thing.

I always wonder about the mystery coolant leaks where there is no visible leak. I've read this about several times. My mind always goes to a small head gasket leak…that its burning in the combustion chamber. Thats why you never see visible evidence.
