The springs that go with the BMW Perf suspension are different based on transmission. That is why you need to provide your VIN when you order.

I would suggest getting the entire kit with springs to anyone thinking of getting just the shocks, struts, and other bits. It is a great setup at a great price from Tischer.

I wanted to order the springs and sway bar also to couple this, and emailed Evan about it.. and below is our conversation. I still don't understand why they didn't recommend it, for I am sure it would work fine with it.
We dont recommend it because it's not recommended by BMW.

This older kit requires the zsp springs and sways for best results........so vehicles that already have the zsp do not get new springs/sways.....and vehicles that do not have the zsp require new zsp springs/sways. The newer bmw performance springs (yellow) are only for use with the newer suspension kit per BMW.

Y'all are welcome to try any setup you'd like, but we can't recommend or confirm fitment of anything except what BMW states works....and you're doing so at your own risk.

Thank you.

Understood... that is why I went with just the old kit and no springs/sway. Thanks!

I thought the old performance kit was basically the euro m sport suspension (a step up from the US ZSP not avail here). Are there euro m sport springs that would work?? I know there is a Euro rear sway bar (14mm) that can go with the setup.

hm........ it is an interesting read...
i just read through all pages of Mr.5 thread:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=237309&page=5

it seems like BMW changed their part number or the so-called "performance" kit equals to euro's "m-sport" kit?

because i received my struts yesterday, definitely the part list in the box said "sport retrofit" in somewhere.

i'll be receiving my springs tomorrow and will look into the part numbers.

Let us know how it turns out Eric and how it all fits, ride, and total drop. I want to get this package but it seems everyone has their own way of putting it together. I just want to know which parts work best together.

the package i ordered is the same as Mr. 5, strut kits and then order the springs separately, so i am assuming it will be similar if not the same as his setup minus the sway.

the more the reading i read, the more confusion im having, hahahahaha

but at least if it works with Mr. 5, it should be fine to me since he is a truly BMW expert here =)

I have the old BMW Perf suspension, w/ yellow springs & 14mm rear sway. I also have all the M3 bits and a Quaife LSD. It works well for me as a daily driver. The pricing on the shocks is great, definitely a bargain. I would consider custom spec'ing some Swift springs as an alternative to the heavier BMW ones.

i was reading Mr.5 thread and he has T3 in from and T4 in rear. when i got mine, i got both T4 f and r. im guessing the type of transmission would par with different springs in front?

This is a great post for many of us looking to upgrade our suspensions without breaking the bank. Let's keep it going with the results of each of our choices for springs, sway bars, m3 componets etc.

after 5 hours of man power, finally got my perf struts and perf springs in.
i couldn't tell the difference right away, but my friends already said the rear sits lower than stock, but front looks pretty similar to stock so far. (i have ZSP stock)

for the ride, first impression, it seems firmer. but the rebound is so short, it's like "bump" rather than "b--u--m--p" than ZSP. it feels more "comfortable" when regular cruising, feels "softer" than ZSP, i feel less bumpy ride.

when it comes to cornering, definitely i feel much less body roll, the car exits corner more sharp and will go wherever you are pointing to, feels less struggling while exiting a turn.

i only had less than 20 mins driving after install, but most of the time i feel very stock ZSP like but less bumpy, and a more comfy ride than ZSP. friends said it will settle the ride height more after a week or 2.

the only thing i notice is vibration at higher speed >60mph (i had vibration before install anyway, probably due to bad front balancing), i guess an alignment is needed also with a new front balancing.

Lawwailok,

Get that thing aligned ASAP! I'll be following your progress as I build the "MR.5" suspension kit myself.

Do you have any recommendations on the install, other than whats already been put out there?

im gonna let them seat for a week b4 alignment is done.
the rear, we struggled for almost an hour to get the damn bolts align right, other than that it is very straight forward in the rear. the front, make sure you have the spring compressor tool, getting that suckers out is no fun. at the bottom of the front struts, there's a "C-clamp" like bracket to hold the strut, try to use a big flat head and pry on it a little so you don't have to wiggle for xx mins to get the strut out.

the whole process is pretty straight forward, just time consuming. like putting the trunk back is pain, took me a while to tuck the furthest part back in place.

Stressdoc, did you also get the m3 camber links or did you just leave the stock ZSP camber links in there? I'm assuming you would need to change out the struts and springs if new cambers were put in?

For $133, the"old" suspension kit is a good bargain, especially swapping in a few m3 bits and pieces in there...

i have a question guys, sorry to thread jack a little bit here. after the perf suspension installed (struts kit and springs kit ordered separately), i can't really tell the right height has been changed at all. here are 2 pictures of the before and after, same wheels, same tires. one of them is with stock ZSP suspension, the other one is with the perf suspension.
can you guys tell the difference at all? or maybe after a couple of weeks once it settles, it may drop a little more?

I can certainly see a difference in the stance, but its not huge.

Really? Maybe I see the car everyday and I'm bad in judging the stance

Anyone get an estimate of what the dealer charges to install the old performance kit, just keeping the ZSP springs??

Eric,

See a slight difference in the rear. Front looks about the same. Too bad you didn't measure beforehand.

However, I do think it will drop a little. Give it a couple weeks and see. THEN, get it aligned.

At the very least, glad you like the overall feel!
