Like you, my primary reason for wanting an M550 was for the combination of comfort and performance. As far as I am concerned, no other vehicle offers such a stellar combination.
Same. I ordered mine in October and I got everything I wanted (the phone charger sucks anyways). Only option that wasn't available was B&W and it wasn't all that important to me as I've been working on car stereos since ATLiens came out and there is ways around that in some aspects, which I've already started. The e53 AMG and S6/S7 don't come close to this from performance (or looks IMO). Parking assist 360 cameras, kick trunk (gimmicky at best), etc was all available on my order. If you're primary objective is selective specifics on color, interior, wheels etc you'll be MORE than happy what you get. If that's not important to you, get one a few years old.

That sucks they're not offering HUD anymore. Definitely one of my favorite features.
Maybe once this chip shortage bullshit ends, they bring it back..........but then it will be a Hybrid.

HUD absolutely available

Parking Assist available through dealers. A lot of misinformation out there.

Caveat - available on M550i

HUD is like apple CarPlay. I don't think I'd buy another daily driver without it.

The HUD is funny for me because I thought I wouldn't like it. Whenever I was playing fantasy land on the build site I'd think "nope don't need that". Then the used one I bought had it. I wanted driver assist plus and most with that have the HUD. I read a comment on a forum that once you have it, you can't go without. I totally dismissed that.

I was wrong.

I think my 2022 540 was a November build…?

Maybe early December. Anyway, it's pretty loaded. Doesn't have the 360° parking, but has the park assist which is all I need. Has wireless charging, but I could care less. Has HUD, massaging seats, Harmon Kardon sound which I think will suffice. Also has the LED puddle lights with the BMW logo? Not sure I see this option on the website currently. Not something I would have ordered, but it's cool. Sticker was $74k, had I built one I think it was around $70k.

I'd say the biggest benefit for me in HUD are turn by turn instructions in HUD and unfortunately, if you use Apple CarPlay exclusively (me), navigation with Apple CarPlay doesn't give you anything on HUD. You also can't scroll through actions songs and playlists. It's just skip to the next track. For these reasons I can't put as much value on HUD as I did on my F10 in the old days when we used to use the cars navigation system and audio interface.

Since you put as much value on Apple CarPlay as me and value HUD so much, I'm curious if I'm missing something or doing something wrong. What does it provide on your windshield that's beneficial when using Apple CarPlay? For me, I really don't need to see my speed on the windshield. That's pretty much all I get beside the brief check controls or the rare accident up ahead.

I've used HUD like twice, and keep it off most of the time. Only have about 2000 miles on it and no elongated trip, but I don't see me not using it changing. I wear polarized sunglasses 90% of the time and it's hard to see with those on anyways. It could go away tomorrow and I wouldn't blink an eye. We are strange creatures all with different tastes and importance in different items.

I haven't looked at my dash board since I bought the car. I look at the screen some and the windshield. For whatever reason, I love that.

On navigation, I think I prefer the look of the BMW nav. But when CarPlay is already in use, it's just easier to use the CarPlay. So that's what I end up doing.

I'm pretty sure HUD tells me who is calling on an incoming call, too.

*when I say dashboard, I mean the gauges obviously.

I wish the HUD had a gear display and tach. Is the HUD different on the LCI? I know the F90 has different functionality.

Understood. Unfortunately, the caller does not show in HUD when on CarPlay. I'm not even sure incoming call shows up. I have not used the cars navigation once. It's just so much easier going to my calendar and clicking on the location of a meeting, clicking it and maps launches. Or just grabbing my phone or using Siri to kick off a route. I also think it's tricky to use the cars navigation with CarPlay running.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying hud isn't something I'd ever leave out, but I've had it on BMWs before CarPlay was invented and there was so much more information you could pull up on it. Still can, but nothing CarPlay related.

Some consider the hands free trunk to be useless or gimmicky. Since having it on my last car and also my 550, I wouldn't be without it. We travel a lot and when both hands are full it is very nice to open the trunk without sitting luggage or other things down.

I do miss the soft close doors that my last car had, though. Not a deal breaker but I would have liked to have that feature.

I love the hands free trunk option. I would absolutely get it again. It actually works very well compared to other vehicles that i had it in, namely Jaguar.

When I use Apple Maps/ CarPlay the turn by turn navigation does show up in the HUD. Use it for when address I've never been to before.

When I'm in my daily drive to a location I'm concerned about traffic I prefer google maps Navi. Google maps does not show up in the HUD though.

Has anyone (US customers) been able to more recently order, or buy one off dealer inventory, a 540 or 550 with the park assist package? Specifically surround cameras? I've had surround cameras for my last 4 cars. Can't live without them at this point. 😂

And if they're gone, my suspicion is they won't return for MY23 since it's the last year. The most we'll get from BMW for the last MY will be an option or two thrown in, or Dakota leather disappear and all cars gets Nappa... Things like that.

You must have a 2021 or 2022. I'm on my phone, so I can't see what MY you have.

21 but I mostly use google maps anyway and it doesn't show up in hud. Regardless HUD is great to have. Mainly like it for the MPH and speed limit info. Also red light camera and speed camera warnings are helpful for me in city areas.

Yeah hud is a must. I'm glad they integrated it into ID7. I do find it the most useful for turn by turn right in front of you vs glancing at the screen. It's nice to see how fast I'm going.

All things considered, I would’ve preferred an LCI when I bought my car last year. Unfortunately, price wise, that wasn’t in the cards. I’m very happy with my car, and envious of those of you who have 2020-2021+ models. At the same time, it distresses me that newer versions are having to make do with fewer features. I was at a dealership yesterday that had received 70+ new cars in the last week—all pre-sold and with whatever options BMW had available. So, cars are becoming available, but at what cost feature-wise?
