540d (US) Owners Please Chime In!

Hi All! I just recently bought a 540d and absolutely love it. I wanted to see how many of us are out there and hear your experience with and thoughts about the car. I don't expect too many replies since there were only 100-200 sold here, but just throwing this out there!

Didn't know you could get the 540d in the US. I assume you asked your dealer for a custom order?

I assume CPO/Used. The G30 had a D version in the US, but new imports are essentially banned is my understanding. As the testing is pretty stringent following the emissions scandal.

I have one. There's a small Facebook group "USA 540d Owners Group"

They were announced in January 2018 and cancelled by September. VW ruined non-truck diesels for everyone.

Mine's an M-Sport with Executive package, comfort seats.

I've got one too, it's my daily for my 200 mile trek to work. Love it but feel it's a little lazy in first/ second gear unless I'm flooring it.

Sorry to interrupt the diesel talk, but I noticed your door handles. Did they come black or where they originally chrome? If you changed them, did you paint them or use a wrap?

I just bought mine and had it shipped to me. It came from TX. It's nice to see some other owners on here! How many miles do you have? Any issues?

MY2018 models and earlier have a chrome strip. This was removed for MY2019.

I know. I have a 2018. That's why I was asking if he originally had chrome, and if so then what method he used to switch it.

it's wrapped black, actually full chrome delete and black surround tail lights. picked up the car cpo as I cant get new diesels so couldn't order it as i like.
I put 6000 miles a month 95% highway though, no issues so far, I'm at 58K as we speak.

I go back and forth on the chrome delete. I like the chrome grill, but I wouldn't mind making the window trim, door handle accent, and breather vent black. Can't decide how it would look with basically a chrome deleted side but keeping chrome on the front.

Hi diesel fans.... I moved from Montreal to California for work in 2018.
I had a VW Touareg TDI while in Montreal and here I bought my 540d. I could not get away from the diesel torque advantages and fuel economy. Just love it.

The torque on the 540d is just amazing and quite addictive. It happens right off idle and really puts you back in the seat. Super fun!

I started out with a VW TDI Sportwagon that was bought back by the manufacturer. Using that money, I almost purchased a gas-vehicle, but found my 2016 X3d xdrive. Later, I got a 2016 535d xdrive and currently own a 2018 540d xdrive. With the exception of two bad fuel injectors in the X3, I have had no engine-related issues with any of the three. However, the 540d is by far the best handling and most comfortable of the three. Surprised to learn that there are so few G30 diesels sold in the UUS.

I wanted a 540d and in all the time I was looking I only saw (2) every listed within 400mi of me in California. Very rare. I'd love to pickup even a F10 535d for a highway commuter.

Mine's a 2018 540d MSport. I bought it from a dealer in Cali and had it shipped to FL. I absolutely love it. I was first bitten by the diesel bug in 2007 when I ordered a brand new 2008 F-350 with the 6.4L. I still have it, too. Since then, I've owned a VW Golf TDI (sold) and a BMW 328d, which I still own. I use the 540 for my daily commute. The 328 gets slightly better fuel mileage, but the 540 is more fun to drive.

TDI Tuning module- 390 hp/582 lb. ft. torque. Future Mods: KW v3 coilovers, replace all black plastic exterior trim with carbon fiber.
