Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone has installed an exhaust cut out directly after the Downpipe and before the resonator. Let me know how!

This won't help you with your BMW, but I installed QTP electric cutouts on my '95 Corvette ZR-1 just ahead of the rear mufflers. I sometimes drag raced the car and I liked to be able to vary the sound from mild stock to setting off car alarms and scaring children. Not sure I would put cutouts on my 540xi but if you want to vary the exhaust sound from quiet stock to wide open loud it would be one way to do it. I decided to put the cutouts as far to the rear as possible to get them close to the normal exhaust outlets, and they were controlled with a rocker switch hidden under the carpet on the passenger side of the center console. I also had QTP electronic cutout on my 2008 maxima back in the day. Had it up front, it was pretty cool when i wanted to get loud.

I like how if you do go with a valved exhaust or cut out that has remote operation, there's the possibility of using the home link/garage door opener in the rear view to control it.

Most the valves exhausts I have seen essentially have one half of the exhaust straight piped when the valve is open, so I think of you go valved there really isn't much 'value' added by adding cut outs.
