BMW Extended Service Contracts and Ultimate Care
I'll be taking delivery soon on my new M550ix.
I would like to protect myself against high costs in the event of some failures in the future by buying an extended service contract. I would prefer a BMW warranty over a non-factory one, but am interested in hearing the voices of experience. Also, do some dealers discount the extended warranties? I was able to buy the factory extended warranty on my wife's Pilot at a substantial discount from a dealer in a different state. If so, can someone recommend sources? PM me. ******** I'm also interested in the Ultimate+ care, but wonder how many miles per year you need to drive to make it cost effective? Thanks in advance. |

There is some good info in this thread. I chose third party because I was able to get 10 year coverage, BMW only covers up to 7. I spoke to several BMW service managers about CNA and they all liked their coverage, ease to work with and duration of their contracts. BMW doesn't negotiate on the price of their contracts. Third party contracts can be negotiated.

As far as extended warranty, none of them will kick in until your factory warranty is up. You can wait. You think you'll own the car for X number of years, but you never know what might change. When I bought my CPO 540 in December I asked the finance guy if it would be any cheaper to buy the extended warranty then, instead of waiting until just before original CPO warranty ends. He said it's the same and there's no reason not to wait. And this was not the home town dealer and not the dealer that will service the car, so he had no real assurance that I'd come back to them to buy it. Frankly, in his interest, he should've sold it on the spot. But he didn't, which I appreciate.

You certainly can wait, but the way everything is going up in price these days, it may be less expensive to pursue something sooner than later.
