Supply shortage and options no longer offered
Just curious if someone knew what options BMW is no longer offering in the new cars...or since the supply shortage began. It seems like it changes from time to time. Were the auto closing doors a victim of this? Also, I haven't seen the B&W sound system option. No option for the wireless phone charging either.

Soft close doors were killed starting with the LCI.
B&W was moved up to only the M550i Wireless charging is alive or dead depending on supply. Same with 360 cameras, touch screen, and probably others I am not remembering. |

Parking assistance
Sometimes power tail gate Sometimes HUD. I built a car and msrp dropped. It’s bc parking assistance is gone for now. My brother got a credit bc his car was delivered months ago without XM radio (no chips). It was an X3. |

I just don't think I'd order a car right now. I also feel like the preowned market will be weird for these cars. One of the upsides of buying pre owned is getting all the options at the depreciated value. Why spend the money for a new car if you can't get what you want? Now, if the options don't matter to you to begin with, I get that.

Yeah, I'm not so sure B&W is available on the M550, it's been missing as an option for a long time on all models.
Supposedly soft close doors were removed before COVID because BMW says their marketing research shows that 5 series owners don't want them. I'm not buying that. They removed them from the LCI's in the middle of COVID and supply issues, just like all the other missing options. All the other stuff listed by you guys already is hit or miss. Some people are getting kick trunk and some not for example. I'd agree, not the time to order a new car that's stripped of the luxury options we expect in a car of this value. Not to mention, BMW takes off peanuts for the omissions that it barely moves the dial on the price. That's kind of shitty by BMW. Selfishly, I'm happy to have a very well equipped 2018, it makes me not feel the urge to have the latest and not so greatest. No offense to late 2021 and 2022 owners, but the fact that you can't have B&W in a 2022 is a non starter for me and makes me appreciate what I have more.

If I needed a car and was ordering new, I'd be excited for sure. But I agree that I feel less impatience or envy for the latest and greatest when my CPO was 60% of the money with all of the options. If they're able to sell the stripped down g30s for almost full price now, no telling what they'll charge when they roll out the 2024 with (hopefully) all the options! As a side note - if I were them and supply was still an issue when the time comes nearer, I'd rather delay a new rollout than roll it out in a stripped down version.

My 2022 has everything that I wanted, but it was built in October where parts weren't such an issue. I'm just curious about the current automotive manufacturing climate. I don't have the bowers and Wilkins Soundsystem or TVs behind the headrest, but basically everything else. A Soundsystem certainly wouldnt prevent me from buying the car. The main reasons why I bought the m550i was for the powertrain/performance and comfort. The rest was secondary honestly. But as of recent, from reading some of these posts, seems like it's hit or miss lately…there would be multiple show stoppers for me. I generally dont feel sorry for dealers, but the past year has been awful for them. It's got to be a tough business to be in now

I'm glad I got my car in 2019 before this all went sideways. I'll hold onto it until 2026 or 2027 and give all of this time to shake itself fully out. Which will also give me time to see some improvements to BEVs to transition from my PHEV into. Longer than many like to hold onto their cars sure, but I'm not a fan of burning money so I'm not jumping into anything with gimped options or prices inflated into the stratosphere. |

I bought a 2018 preowned and my plan is get to 2025 and reassess. If I like the new version, I can keep up the 2018 until it gets tired. If I prefer the g30 to the new one, I can do the CPO thing again and get a lightly used 2023. But now I'm starting to think there may not be a huge market of 2022 & 2023 with all the features one might expect. Honestly, I love this g30 so much that I've thought I might just keep it even after I get the next one, assuming the next one isn't another g30.

I remember I started seriously looking at cars in October of last year. I pulled into a Mercedes dealership and seriously thought they went out of business. Not one new car on the lot, only a handful of used cars. They had 3 new vehicles inside that were for new deliveries. They said the wait time was 6 mos....nothing to test drive, I walked out.
I journeyed on down the road to the Porsche dealer. Not one new car period. Used crap inside. I looked at a used 911 turbo that the inside door panel was literally falling off. Not one salesman got up to talk to me. I thought I was in the Twighlight zone...ready to see Rod Serling walk out of one of the offices. I finally went to a BMW dealer where they had a few stripped X3's out front. Walked into the dealer and there was a used corvette sitting there. I couldn't believe it. The salesman and I were laughing...that's all you could do at that point. I test drove a used 2019 M550i with 59k on the clock. I couldn't believe that I didn't hear one squeak or rattle...no annoying nothing. It drove like a creampuff. To me, that was a testament to the quality...it was like driving a new car. I also drove a used 540 and was again shocked about how well it held up...I was surprised about how much pep it had. In January I thought let me take a look on the websites to see if the inventory situation was getting better. I saw my local dealer had the exact car I wanted in stock, one M550i. It had a few options I wouldn't have ordered, but am glad I have them now. Needless to say, I worked out the best deal I could. It was like pulling teeth to get $1500 off the price. While I was working out the deal with the salesman, there was another guy there working a deal with another salesman at the same time...shit actually got heated between those guys. My salesman was all red in the face having to show the other guy that I emailed him the night before inquiring about the car. Ridiculous. It was awkward, but I got the car. |

Like you, my primary reason for wanting an M550 was for the combination of comfort and performance. As far as I am concerned, no other vehicle offers such a stellar combination. |
